Poetry Madness: Game 4

Read Game 4 poems, If and Who Has Seen the Wind. Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

***Please tell me everything you think, but use your best writing.

Here is an example of proficient writing:

"The Eagle" is about an eagle flying over the sea and close to the sun. Then he is watching the mountain and swoops down like a lightning bolt to catch his prey.

The second poem, "Casey at Bat", is about a boy whose baseball team is losing, but there are two people on base. Casey gets two strikes, and the crowd is very upset. Finally, Casey strikes out, and the crowd is outraged.

For the winner, I chose "The Eagle". I chose it because it had a deeper meaning and understanding for me. I also liked how used a rhyme scheme of AAABBB. Also, the author used a simile comparing the eagle to a thunderbolt, "He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls." That is why I choose The Eagle.

  5. “If” is about a mom telling her kid that life isn’t fair. That you got to make a stand and be brave in life.

“Who Has Seen the Wind” is about a person telling the symbols of the wind. That you can't see wind.

I chose “Who Has Seen the Wind” as the winner. It is better to understand unlike “If”.One way of writer's craft was imagery.Ex. I could imagine the leaves trembling.Another way was personification.Ex.the trees bow down their heads. That is why I chose “Who Has Seen the Wind”.

  7. If is about a mom telling her son not to give up, and when people judge you keep calm and don’t lose your mind. Also treat people right, and they will do the same to you. And last but not least you can take all of your wins and put them together or just start over.

Who has seen the wind is about a kid asking himself, “ Who has seen the wind.” He says the wind passes through, makes stuff blow, but who has seen the wind?

For my winner I chose If. I chose wind because it leads you in the right path, and shows you how to treat yourself, others, and the world. I also liked to imagine all of the actions they did. It also had a good flow, like the endings. I think If won. - Sarah

  9. “Who has seen the wind “is about someone trying to see wind but can’t.

“If” is about a parent who is giving their kid advice and warning them about what could happen.

I chose” Who Has Seen The Wind” as the winner because I could really understand it . Types of writers craft I saw was personification. For example, I know that trees can’t bow . Also I saw there was a good amount of rhyming . For example, Neither I nor you . The wind is passing through. That is why I chose who has seen the wind

The second poem Who has seen the wind is about how you can never see the wind, but you can see it moving through things.

I think the winner is Who seen the wind. I think that poem is the winner because it makes sense and it tells true things. It uses personification. For example, it says ‘ But when the leaves hang trembling’. It also should imagery because I could see the wind blowing through the leaves on the tree. I pick Who has seen the wind should be the winner.

The main idea of “If” is a mother talking to her child. The 1st paragraph is about how you should not doubt yourself. I like “If”because a mom is talking about stuff you should not do like,If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you.
The main idea of” Who Has Seen The Wind” is If anyone has seen the wind because she sees stuff moving from the wind but doesn't know where it is.

I choose” Who has Seen the Wind” because of the rhyme scheme. For example,ABCB for paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 is ABCB.I also like it because I can picture the whole poem.I like it also because it is shorter.

  16. “Who has Seen the Wind” is about the wind and has anybody seen it. Also the author is trying to tell us about the wind and have you ever really thought about the wind.

The poem “If” is about a mother talking to her son about things that could be challenging in life. Also it is telling about a mother that might not have her dreams come true so she is telling her son that your dreams might not come true.

I chose “ Who has Seen the Wind” because I think it is very interesting because I never thought about the wind. One piece of writer’s craft is a personification because it says that the trees bowed down. Also another piece is that the rhyme scheme is ABCC, ABCC. I really also like this poem because it says that wind is very unknown and I think that is very interesting because of that. I also like this poem because it shows a lot of meaning to me.

  17. "If" is about how if one person does or says something it could have a big effect. One of the things this poem lacks is rhyming.
"Who can see the Wind" is about even though you can't actually see wind you can see what it's effect to things around it are,and usually feel it.Sometimes you can even hear it.
I think "Who Can see The Wind" should win because one it rhymes two it is easy to read.I doubt Who can see the wind will make it to the last game, but it definitely won this round.

The second poem “Who Has Seen The Wind,” is about a person saying that no human has seen the wind. But people can feel it passing by.

I chose “If”as the winner because. It has a great meaning about a mom telling his son not to give up. Also I like the advice that the mom gives him. One of the writer's craft is. For example, Treat Those Two. Another writer's craft is the Rhyme scheme. For example, on the first for lines it was AAAA then the rest is ABAB.

  30. I think If it is about a lesson don’t let anybody beat you down. Keep your head up, hold on to tour winnings, and don’t let them go.

I think Who Has Seen the Wind is about wondering where the wind is, if you have seen the wind. Neither have I nor have you, but the wind is beautiful.

I chose If because it taught me a lesson. To keep my head up, and keep my winnings and don’t let go. I think the rhyme scheme is AABB. The writer's craft was amazing, Example he did at the beginning of every one it said if. That is why I chose If.

  31. The first poem, IF is about asking for advice like What if I could stand up for someone. It's also about not being a show off when you tell someone about your trophies/medals.

The second poem, Who has seen the Wind is about a boy/girl wondering where the wind comes from or where it goes to. It's also about the trees moving or the branches Bending.

I think the winner is Who has seen the Wind because you could really see it through the poem because it was very specific. The imagery was awesome. You could imagine the wind blowing in your hair. Lastly, I loved the personification because you the trees don't really bend.
