Poetry Madness: Game 5

Read Game 5 poems, This is Just to Say and Choosing Shoes . Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

***Please tell me everything you think, but use your best writing.

Here is an example of proficient writing:

The first poem, Roger The Dog, is about a dog who is very lazy and won't get up. He uses all of his strength to eat food, so  this dog is not the healthy type.

The second poem, The Falling Star, is about a boy who spots a shooting star falling through the sky and explains that it is priceless, memorable, and to be forever gone out of his life.

I think that the winner is the poem, The Falling Star. The reason I chose this poem is because it has great imagery, like when the woman stated,"Blinding the north as it went by". Another reason I chose this poem is the author uses the rhyme scheme: AA BB CC. This makes the poem fun to read and gives it a rhythm.

  4. I think This is just to say is about a mouse or a creature that snuck into a family's ice chest and ate their plum breakfast.

I think Choosing shoes is about a person that can not decide on what kind of shoes they want to buy.

I liked This is just to say more because of the imagery.

  5. In This Is Just to Say, the author is stating the obvious. This would be an example of a child confessing to their parents about eating what could have been their parents breakfast.

The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about a girl who is on a shopping trip with her mom. The girl wants to buy all different fancy shoes, but her mom ends up buying plain practical shoes.

I think that the winner is the poem, Choosing Shoes. One of the reasons that I liked this poem is because it has great imagery, like when it says, "Bright shoes, white shoes, dandy-dance-by-night shoes". Another reason that I chose this poem is because it has a great beat and because of the rhyme scheme: AAA B. This is why I like Choosing Shoes.

  7. I think This is just to say about breakfast. Because it says " Saving for breakfast". There are no Similes, metaphors, personification, and patterns.
I think Choosing shoes is about well choosing shoes. because it tells you about what different shoes there are to pick from. The thing that is unique about the poem is that all of it goes AAAB.
I like Just to say. Because it is very imagine like and the reason i don't like Choosing shoes because i don't like shopping for shoes.

  8. I think This Is Just To Say is about a child who went and ate a plum and he knows he should not have because they were saving it for Breakfast. He tried to make an excuse by saying "they were delicious so sweet and so cold." I think Choosing shoes is about getting new shoes and how there are so many different types of shoes like when he says "Buckle shoes, Bow shoes, Pretty Pointy to shoes." The Rhyme Scheme went AAAB. My favorite was Choosing Shoes because I could imagine all the different types of shoes he was explaining I also liked the rhyme scheme and how it went AAAB.

  9. Random, I think This is Just to Say is about a guy who eats someone's plums for breakfast. He kind of asks for forgiveness but doesn't really mean it when he says "They were so sweet and delicious."
Choosing shoes is obviously about a guy who goes to try on shoes. He likes all of them and might have trouble deciding. The rhyme scheme is AAAB.
I choose (get it, choose) Choosing Shoes because it has an awesome rhyme scheme and flows beautifully!

  11. The first poem,This Is Just To Say was about how a guy ate the plums in the icebox and that they were delicius and cold and all that.

Choosing shoes was about how somebody could not pick the right shoes, and that there were so many to choose from.

I think that This Is Just To Say was better because it was really silly how it says that you ate the plums, and that you really liked them.

The second poem, Choosing shoes is about a boy or girl who looks at all the shoes. She wonders if her mom would let her buy some. But, the shoes she gets are the practical kind.
My winner is Choosing shoes. I really enjoy when poems rhyme. I also noticed the the rhyme scheme was AABB. The end was funny because it was talking about all the bad shoes she always gets.

  13. I think that This is Just to Say is about the author telling us that we all do things that we feel a little guilty about. For example, the author says that he ate the plums that he knew someone was saving. I can relate to this because I have done something like this, as has my mom. For example, I caught her eating my Halloween candy.
I think the second poem, Choosing Shoes, was about someone saying that if they could choose any shoes they wanted they would choose fancy shoes, but if someone else were to choose, they would choose less fancy shoes.
In my opinion, my favorite poem was This is Just to Say because it had deeper meaning to me after I thought about it for a minute. That is why I chose This is Just to Say.

  14. This is just to say is a poem that describes someone eating cold, yummy plums that were to be saved for breakfast. I think a little boy snuck into the kitchen and ate the plums because he probably did not eat his dinner and was starving.
Choosing Shoes is about a boy or girl going shoe shopping with their mom. The kid likes all the awesome shoes, but the mom makes them get the normal and practical shoes.
I like Choosing Shoes because I always want new cool shoes, but usually my mom makes me get normal shoes that I can wear to school.

  16. This Is Just To Say is about someone who cannot wait until morning to eat the yummy plums in the freezer. I think this poem was to entertain and had more of a funny sense to it then a deep meaning. I think Choosing shoes was a funny poem about someone who is trying to pick the perfect shoes to buy, but there are so many! It also had some fun phrases to read with fun words.
I choose Choosing Shoes because it was a fun poem to read. It was very long and didn't have much of a rhyme scheme, but I liked the unique words used to describe all the different kinds of shoes. This is why I choose Choosing Shoes.
    I choose

  17. I think This is Just to say, is about someone eating a plum that someone else was going to eat for breakfast, and apologizing, but at the same time, telling about how delicious it was. I think Choosing Shoes is about all the types of shoes, and how they make you look and feel, and someone, probably the author, asking which type of shoes are the reader's favorites. the author also states that all he/she has to buy are the ordinary, not so fun type of shoes. My winner is Choosing Shoes, because I really liked the rhythm, and the tempo, and I also liked the rhyme pattern, AAAB. I also thought that This Is Just To Say, was a little bland, and needed to be a little longer, so that's why it wasn't my favorite.

I think Choosing Shoes is about how people sometimes buy comfortable shoes instead of fancy shoes, and it would be nice to buy some of those for a change.
Both of these poems were great but I liked This Is Just To Say the best. I like it better because I like the way the author put lots of rhymes in the poem.
