Poetry Madness: Game 7

Read Game 7 poems. Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)
2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)
3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

Here is an example of a proficient blog post:

The first poem, "Do you Carrot all for me?", is about someone expressing their feelings in vegetables.

The second poem, "The Castle in the Fire", is about a knight who saves a princess.

I picked "The Castle in the Fire" because it had more detail, it is a story, and it also has alliteration. For example, the author says, "Then, while we watch in wonder." The Castle in the Fire also had great imagery.  I could really picture the dragons guarding the castle and the knight saving the princess. It felt like a storybook to me. That's why I chose The Castle in the Fire.

The second poem, “Someone” is about somebody knocking on this persons door but when he opens his door no one's there!

The winner for me is “Life Doesn’t frighten Me” because it had a good meaning. I liked how they used rhyme scheme. For example, it says, “Shadows on the wall, noises in the hall.” I also liked how they used alliteration. For example, it says, “Panthers in the park.” I also liked when they used repetition. For example it said, “Not at all, not at all.” For me “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” is the winner!

  5. “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” is about a girl who isn’t afraid of life. She doesn’t get scared of things that would frighten others. She isn’t expected to be scared, even of the scariest things. For example, she isn’t afraid of strangers.

“Some One” is about a person who hears a knock at his door. When they open it no one is there. All they can hear are the owls, the crickets, and the beetle. They don’t know who knocked, but they know it happened.

I choose “Some One” because I liked how they didn’t know who did it, but they know it happened. Some of the writer's craft is alliteration and onomatopoeia. For example, “Only the busy beetle” is alliteration. “Tap tapping” is onomatopoeia. That is why I chose “Some One”.

The second poem is ‘’ Someone’’ it is about a man talking about he’s sure he saw someone at his door but he can’t find the person. At night he is in bed and he hears the birds chirping and the crickets whistle in the night.

The second poem, “Some One”, is about someone knocking on the poet’s door, but when he opened the door, no one was there. 15. I think ‘’, Life Doesn’t Frighten me ,’’ is about a girl that isn't afraid of anything. But then she realizes she’s in a dream.

I think ‘’, Some one ,’’ is about someone who is getting tricks played on him.

In my opinion I like ,’’ Some One ,’’ better because has more writers craft and is better descriptive. For example, The imagery is someone looking out the door and getting pranked. It also has repetition as busy beetle. That is why I like ,’’ Some One ,’’ better.

  19. The first poem is called” Life Doesn't Frighten Me.” This is about someone who says no matter the cause life doesn't frighten me and I like what they did I just think it is okay to be scared in my opinion. This did also have great metaphors like “i won't cry so they fly”.

The second poem is called “Some One” and it is about. Someone coming at the door and her answering it, and no one being there. This has great pictures. I could really picture the door and someone ringing it and leaving.

My favorite was “life doesn't frighten me i liked it because of the great metaphors and all of the extra details they put into it. For example,”they go wild.” They did not need to put that in , but they still did and I loved that.

  20. “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” is about someone who has no fears. The poem tells many ways that life doesn’t frighten her.
The poem “Some One” is about: they here a knocking at the small door, they check left and right but nobody is there.
I chose “Some One” as the winner because I understood the poem a lot better. In “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” it only mentions ways that it doesn’t frighten her. In “Some One” It has repetition. For example, I’m sure-sure-sure. It also rhymes. For example, right and night.

  21. The first “ Life Doesn't Frighten Me,” is about life doesn't frighten that person. I think that poem is serious and happy because it talks like I can do it but in a serious way to me. I think it has really good imagery because you can see a person saying that life doesn't frighten me even though that their are stumps in life I am ready. I also think that it has rhyme scheme like “ wall hall or goose loose, or boo shoo, fun run, cry fly ,smile and wild.”

The second poem “ Some One,” is about Someone who came knocking on the door and the person who opened the door said” there's nobody here,” and there was nobody at the door. I think that this poem is very silly. It has onomatopoeia and repetition. You could probably sing it if you had to .

I chose the first one “ Life Doesn't Frighten Me,” because it was very inspiring to not be frightened by life even if there are a lot of stumps and hills to go though you should not be scared.I also liked the has good imagery. For example, you can see a girl who is not scared.

  23. The First poem, “Some One”, is about someone who hears a knock at the door and goes to see who is there. When he gets to the door, he looks up and down, left and right, but no one is there. All he sees are a beetle, an owl, and a cricket. There is Rhyme Scheme, Onomatopoeia, Rythm, Alliteration, and Stanzas. The Rhyme Scheme is ABCB. The Onomatopoeias are “tap” and “screech”. When you try to sing the poem, you start tapping your feet to a rythm. The Alliteration is busy beetle. If you look at the poem, there are stanzas.

The second poem, “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me”, is about a woman telling someone how life doesn’t frighten her through talking about “scary” things. This poem has Rhyme Scheme, Alliteration, Imagery, Repitition, and Rythm. THe Rhyme Scheme is AAABBACC. The Alliteration is Panthers in the park. If you close your eyes after you reada stanza, you can imagine that in your mind. The poem always repeats, “ Life Doesn’t frighten me at all”. If you try singing the poem, it will turn into a song.

I choose “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” because I think it shows more perserverance. It also has more creative writer’s craft. I can truly see this happening in my mind, and Ilove the way the poet wrote this. I think this poem is a lot like “Mother to Son”, and “Moher to Son” is my favorite poem we’ve read so far.

  25. 1.”Some One” is about a person who hears knocking on his door but doesn’t know who it was. Some writers craft was repetition and visualisation I noticed repetition wen they said Ät all at all at all” or sure --sure--sure--sure¨ an example of visualisation was when they said ¨dew drops fall¨or ¨The night was stirring¨.
2.¨Life doesn't frighten me¨ is about a person who has a ¨charm¨ that apparently makes it to where he has no fear. Some writers craft is alliteration and visualization some alitterratine was wall hall all, goose loose, fun run, and shoo boo some visualization was when they said ¨shadows on the wall¨ or ¨noises down the hall¨.
3.I vote for ¨Some One¨ because it is more visualizing and I can imagine every little detail on it like the frog croaking to the light in there door or the small crickets chirping in the night also because it raises questions leaving us wanting an answer like who knocked on the door or what is in his house.

  26. The first poem, “ Some One” is a silly poem about a person who hears someone knocking at the door, but when they answer no one is there. They then talk about the empty sound of nothing but owls, bettles, and crickets. Then they end the poem with alliteration. The poet used a great form of word flow.

The second poem, “Life doesn't Frighten Me” is serious poem about a person who is not afraid of anything including people, dangerous animals, mean people, and new things.

I choose the poem , “Life doesn't Frighten Me” because it is a good poem about a person who is not afraid of anything including people, dangerous animals, mean people, and new things. A writer's craft I saw was rhyming. One Rhyme Scheme was AAABBA . Another writer’s craft was rhythm the first 4 lines were 5585.

  27. Life doesn't frighten me is about a kid who is really brave.

Someone is about a guy who hears something and thinks that someone is at the door but really it is just some animals.

My favorite is Someone.I like it because of the A B C A rhyme scheme.I also like the way it ends with it turning out that it is only sounds that he hears.I also like that he describes what sound the animals were making.
