I think “Mother To Son” should win the Poetry Madness Tournament because it has a better message to its readers because it talks about how “life ain’t no crystal stair” and life isn’t perfect, but it still is good. It talks about how if life is hard you should keep moving on, and how the mother has had a hard life, and she kept moving on to.
ReplyDeleteA connection I made to “Mother To Son” was If life is hard keep going and don’t stop until you have become fully happy with yourself.
I like the writer's craft in “The Falling Star” because it has imagery with a bright, fast, and beautiful star falling through the air. Another type I saw was personification with I saw a star slide down the sky because star’s can’t slide.
I CHOOSE “Mother To Son” AS THE WINNER

DeleteI think the poem “Mother To Son” should win the championship because it has a very good meaning to it. Another reason is because it has good imagery. For example, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” I also like how it compares a crystal stair to life. For example, “It’s had tacks in it, “And places with no carpet on the floor.” This is why I think “Mother To Son” should win.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to “Mother To Son” because there have been times in my life where it has been hard, but I kept on going. I feel like this poem is very encouraging to some people because it encourages them to keep on going.
I like “Mother To Sons” writers craft better because of how many kinds there are. One of these is imagery. For example, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” Another example is, “And places with no carpet on the floor.” I have seen this in a new place being built where the stairs are still being built.

Go mother to son
DeleteI think that “ Mother To Son,” because it means that life is not easy as a statement that is says is “Life is no crystal stair.” I thought that “Mother To Son,” was sad, mad, and serious. That is why I think that “Mother To Son” should win.
ReplyDeleteA good connection is that I have is that I have had that same talk except I was a daughter. Another connection is that my mom said, “ Life is no crystal stair. One last connection that I have is that I know that life is no crystal stair.
What I liked about the writer’s craft is that really I liked the imagery. For example, I could see a person talking to their son saying ,“Life is no crystal stair.” That is why I chose “Mother To Son.” -Katherine
I think that “Mother to Son” should win because, over all, I think it is a better poem than “The Falling Star”. First of all, the meaning of it is very important, and Langston Huges really did a great job of getting his readers to really read between the lines and infer. The way that he compares his life to a rough staircase is really passionate, and I think that this poem needs to win very badly.
ReplyDeleteI can make a personal connection to “Mother to Son” because whenever I am feeling down, my mother, father, or sister will always be there to comfort me. When they do, the get me to identify the problem and try to think about what could solve it. Then, they tell me to keep on going, even though life is hard.
When Langston Huges compares his life to a rough, broken staircase, that shows a lot of imagery. When he discribes the crystal stair, I see the staircase of ice from Frozen. He also uses a simile when he compares his life to a staircase. Basically, he is saying that his life is like a rough, broken staircase.

I think ‘’ Mother To Son’’ should win the championship. The reason I think ‘’ Mother To Son’’ should win because it has a better meaning. For example , it tells about perseverance `and if you can persevere stuff you can do anything you want if you try.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to ‘’ Mother To Son’’ because sometimes when I’m having a hard time or day I sometimes think of ‘’ Mother To Son.’’ For example I might be having a bad day then I realize what Langston Hughes had to go through then I feel better.
I like ‘’ Mother To Son’s ‘’ writers craft better. For example , it’s very visual as in seeing a crystal staircase and having spiters a staircase. It also has a simile as in life is like getting tacks and splinters in your feet.

I’m choosing for the finals “Mother to Son”.
ReplyDeleteI connect to this poem when she tells her son to persevere through tough times. In though times my dad telles me to perserver. For example, when I don’t like a book and we have to read it in class, my dad says we can push though it together. Then I end up getting though it and I have pushed though it.
I like the imargy in this poem. For example, in Frosen Elsa has a crystal staircase, and in “Mother to Son” she says her life is not like a crystal staircase. Aougher imagery is when she puts her life a really hard staircase with nals, broken bords, and no capet. I hope you choose “Mother to Son”.

I think, “The Falling Star” should win, because I have been voting for it the whole tournament, and I understand the meaning more. Another reason it should be the winner is because it paints a picture in my mind of what a falling star would look like.
ReplyDeleteMy connection to “The Falling Star” is that in my opinion, stars are too lovely to be bought or sold.
I enjoy the rhyme scheme in “The Falling Star” because it is catchy and I could memorize this poem very easily. I also noticed personification in “The Falling Star” where it said, “I saw a star slide down the sky,” because stars can’t slide.

I like “Mother to Son’s” writer’s craft better. I like how the author compares a crystal staircase to her life. I would have never thought to compare those two things.
~AVERY PICKENS🐶
I vote for “Mother to Son” because it has more meaning, and it also has a better message for me. A mother telling a son that life will hurt, it will be ruff, but keep on going. ”Mother to Son” also has better writers craft in it, and they use fluent flowing word that run down your ears.
ReplyDeleteA connection I made to “The Falling Star” was I love to watch the stars in the sky with all of the light from there brilliant glint they make in the sky.Another connection I made was that I love to look for beautiful falling stars and wish on them.
Some writer craft in “Mother to Son” was metaphors like when they said “Life is no crystal stair” which means that life is not perfect. When they say “The stairs will hae rusty nails or no light and even no rug but I keep climbing” which means life is hard it is ruff, but you have to keep going on.Another piece of writer's craft is visualization I could imagine the old and beaten up staircase representing life.

I think “The Falling Star” should win because I like how she says that you will never see it again. I also like how she says when the shooting star is shooting that a flash of light goes on for a brief second.
I can make a connection to “The Falling Star” because once I saw a falling star, but it didn’t light up the sky. It is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity.
I like how she says it’s too lovely to bought or sold because it is probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I also like the rhyming for example on and gone. {•¿•} 💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣 -Brady It's pie day π ππ π π π π ππ
I think that the poem “ The Falling Star” should win because it is sweet and calming poem.
ReplyDeleteI have a connection to the poem “The Falling Star” because I love to watch stars and I love the way how stars shoots across the sky.
I also like the rhyme scheme. For example, “Too burning and too quick to hold, too lovely to be bought or sold”. I also saw alliteration. For example, “ I saw a star slide down the sky, bliding the north as it went by.”
-Maggie
The poem that I think should be the all time winner is “The Falling Star”. The reason I think that “The Falling Star” should be the winner is because it has more meaning to it. I like how it meaning makes me feel that wishes are only wishes, not tons of things that we may not understand or know. It is like your wish is just a wish, but only for a little while, that is your favorite thing because it is only one thing.
ReplyDeleteMy connection to “The Falling Star” is that all the wishes that I made are ones that can be hard to make, and if I made them at the wrong time, they would not come true.
My favorite thing about “The Falling Star” is its rhyme scheme. I think that if it didn’t have its spectacular rhymes, it would not sound as good. For example, sky and by sound way better than if sky was put next to through. I also like how the rhymes will have the same ending sound that has the same letters. Ex; sold and hold, sky and by, and on and gone.
This is all why I have picked “The Falling Star”.

I think the poem, “ Mother to Son” should win. I think this because of it’s wonderful meaning it has. The meaning of the poem , “ Mother to Son” is a mother telling her son to keep on going. She means by this to keep on going when things get hard. She also means that to never give up.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to this poem because of when I first was learning to skate. I had to keep trying and trying until I got it down. Another connection I can make is when a test gets hard. I stop going until I know I am finished.
“Mother to Son” has great writers craft to me. For example, the rhythm of lines 12-15 is 7667. Another craft I saw was repetition. For example, line 2 and 20 are exactly the same.

I like how the poet’s craft sounds and how it is fun to listen to. I love the rhyme scheme, the similes, and the imagery. I love the rhyme scheme AA for each couplet. My favorite simile is “He hogs the fire and bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread.” I can really imagine Roger by the fire, scratching fleas, sleeping, and eating all of his food.
There are many reasons I think “Roger the Dog” should win.
