  1. The meaning of “Roger the Dog” is more important because I love dogs. I love my dog Scooter. Scooter is like Roger because he never moves from the couch, and at night he hogs the entire bed even though he sleeps all day.

    My connection is to “Roger the Dog”. My dog is named Scooter. He loves to sleep all day, but he loves when we take him on walks or to the dog park. At the dog park he doesn’t run around like the other dogs, he just sniffs the grass.

    I like “Roger the Dogs”’s writer’s craft more because I like the rhymes and the couplets. My favorite rhyme is “He hogs the fire and bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread.” My favorite couplet is the same.

    I chose “Roger the Dog” as the winner because of its writer’s craft and theme.

    I can relate to “Roger the Dog” because my dog is lazy and all he does is eat. My dog also likes to play outside and roll in the mud.

    My winner is “Roger the Dog”. I chose this poem because the alliteration. For example, digs down deep, and dinner dish. I also like the onomatopoeia. For example, gobble and chomp. That is why I choose “Roger the Dog” as my winner.

  3. “Roger the dog” is good meaning poem. I like all the examples in the poem. For example, They say he only wakes up for food and he gets dirty a lot. I think the meaning of “Roger the Dog” is how awesome his/her dog is.

    I have a connection to “How to Eat A Poem”. My connection is everyday my brother says “Today i’m going to eat you”, and I say “You tell me that everyday”.

    In “Roger the Dog” it has better writer’s craft. For example it has a rhyme scheme of AABB. It says “He hogs the fire, he bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread”. Then on the next it says “ He’s just a sack of snoring dog. You can lug him like a log.

  4. “How To Eat A Poem”is a funny poem about a guy who doesn't eat polite and has no manners. The poem is entertaining for different reasons like how you can eat how you want to. It is really cool and nice to do that.

    I can relate on how to eat a poem because sometimes I don’t want to eat nicely and clean.

    I like the writer's craft and imagery. I can picture someone eating a poem and it looks like paper. By the way there is rhyme scheme, like when he is talking he says a lot of rhyme. For example, steam and seed.
    I chose “How To Eat A Poem” -CHARLIE@ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  5. The poem with the deeper meaning for me is “How To Eat A Poem” because it’s about biting into a delicious fruit. It has a strong meaning for me because it really makes me think of a fruit. You don’t have to be polite when you eat it, you can just bite into it and you can savor, and enjoy it.

    I have a connection with “Roger The Dog” because my dog Maizy is also really lazy and likes to sleep. The poem also reminds me of Maizy because she's always very fast when it comes to eating dinner. Maizy is like Roger because they are both stubborn but just in different ways.

    The poem I like is “Roger The Dog” I like this poem because it has great alliteration. For example it says, “Then flops flat, and digs down deep.” I also liked how it had onomatopoeia. In the poem it says, “He saves his strength for gobble and chomp.” I really like how it had rhyme scheme. For example it said, “Asleep he wheezes at his ease, he only wakes to scratch his flees”
    The winner for me is “Roger The Dog”

  7. ‘’Roger the dog’’ has a good meaning because the man loves his dog. His dog does a lot of stuff like rolling in cowclap, and his dog loves to eat. It talks about what dogs do, and the author wants to make you get a dog.

    ‘’How to Eat a poem’’ has a connection in my life. I never wait to eat something because I am always hungry, and I can never wait it said’’ Don't wait to eat bite in.’’ This is why I never wait to eat something.

    ‘’How to Eat a Poem’’ should win because of my connection, and I see imagery in the poem. I could picture the man at the table eating his poem, and the juice running down his chin, and saying ‘’This is really good.’’ This is why I think ‘’How to Eat a Poem’’ should win!

    I liked “ How to Eat a Poem’s” writer’s craft more because I really like the imagery. For example, when he said it may run down your chin I could imagine someone biting into a ripe fruit.Also, I liked the alliteration. For example, ready and ripe.

  9. I think” Roger the dog “ has a better meaning to me because it's about a lazy dog who only eats and sleep. The message is if you are lazy in life you won't get anywhere in life .

    My condition to” How to Eat a poem “is the person picks up the book and juice runs down his face .Like tacos juice runs down my face and you pick it up with your hands .

    I think” Roger the dog “should win . it tone is funny and it really puts a image in your mind. Like lazy often i'm lazy .The rhyme scheme is AABB thats why i think that “Roger the dog “shiuld win .

  10. I think “Roger the Dog” has a more important meaning. I think this because it talking about a dog who is lazy, and sometimes I feel like my dog can be a little lazy and it makes me laugh.

    I have a connection to “Roger the Dog.” My connection is that the poem is about a dog who is lazy and always wants food. Well my dog is always looking for food. (He even licks the dishes! He once got his head caught in the dishwasher.)

  11. I think “How To Eat A Poem” a has a better meaning to me because I like how it I think it sounds like it is healthy for you. I can picture a fruit in my mind, and I know fruits are healthy for you.

    I like “Roger The Dog” writers craft better because it is in couples which I really like. Also The rhyme scheme is AABB. Also, it had some alliteration. For example, digs down deep. I really like how the author gives a description about a lazy dog.

  12. The poems “Roger The Dog” and “How To Eat a Poem” are both good poems, but the more meaningful poem is “How To Eat a Poem”. It is more meaningful to me, because it’s not about a dog that is lazy and likes to roll in cow claps. Instead it is about how you bite right in to a poem and let the words sink in. This is why I think “How To Eat a Poem” is more meaningful then “Roger The Dog”.
    The the poem that I can make a better connection to is “Roger The Dog”, because I can make a “ text to media” connection, because once I sent a online birthday letter to my cousin about a lazy cat that sat around in his litter box and ate catnip.
    “Roger The Dog” has very good rhyme scheme. For example, “He bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread.”, “He will not race, he will not romp, he saves his straeth for gobble and chomp.” ,and “He’ll work as hard as you wish Emptying his dinner dish. This is why “Roger The Dog” should be the winner.

  13. I think “Roger the Dog” has a deeper message because it talks about how lazy he is, but also how he only uses his energy to eat. Also, the poem is really funny when it says,”He rolls in cowclap up to his eyes.”

    I have a connection to”How to Eat a Poem” because I like eating foods that you do not need anything to eat it with, and I like how you can get messy. Another reason is, I like to just bite into foods right as they come to me. Lastly, when I eat foods, I do not like throwing away things I don’t like inside the food.

    I like “Roger the Dog’s” writer’s craft more because the rhyme scheme is great. The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH. Also, I like the imagery. For example,”He rolls in cowclap up to his eyes”and, “He’s a sack of snoring dog you can lug him like a log.”

    “Roger the Dog” is the clear winner to me. ROMAN

  14. The first poem “Roger the Dog” is about a dog who is sloppy and lazy .The only way to get him out of bed is to bribe him with food,and he only wakes to scratch his fleas. It says “He’s just a sack of snoring dog. You can lug him like a log.” that made me smile. It also has alliteration like in dinner dish and his head. I like this poem because it really creates a picture in my mind of how Roger looks.has a connection to me because it talks about a do who rarely moves like my dog!It also only gets up for food and that's one of the many things I love about him.

    The second poem “How to Eat a Poem” has a connection to me because when I was 4-5 I always ate sloppy making it to where I always got food on my face.

    ~~~~~I chose Roger the dog as the winner because it makes a good image in my mind of how he looks,acts,and more!
  15. I think ,’’ The Falling Star’’ has a better meaning. For example , ‘’ The Falling Star’’ talks about someone having big dreams and making a wish when they see a falling star and that mean more to me .
    I can make a connection with ‘’ The New Suit.’’ For example , I have gone to a lot of parties that have good food but I have fancy clothes on and my parents would kill me if I got stuff on them.
    I think ‘’ The Falling Star ‘’ has better writers craft. For example , it rhyming pattern is aabbcc. It is also very visual as in you can see s shooting star go by.That is why I like ‘’ The Falling Star’s ‘’ wr
  17. The Poem that was more meaningful to me is “The Falling Star” because it says that you should cherish it and love it before it goes away, and you can’t see it anymore.
    A connection I made was to “The Falling Star” because I cherish the special people in my life and love spending time with them, and seeing them.
    I like the writer's craft in “New Suit” because it had imagery with chocolate exploding onto his suit or ice cream dripping down his suit. Another kind of writers craft I saw was alliteration for example, “striped suit terrific tie”.
    I choose “The Falling Star” as the winner.
  18. I like “The New Suit” ‘s meaning better because, first of all, I do not think “The Falling Star” really makes sense to me. I do not even know why that poet chose to write it. Mostly, I like the funny meaning that “The New Suit” brings to you when you read it. When I read it, I know that the poet wrote this poem because he wanted to have some good laughs about life. He knows that we all have been in the situation that he was in before.
    I can relate to “The New Suit” Because I know what it is like to have to go somewhere an have to wear an uncomfortable, itchy, tight-fitted outfit.
    I Like “The New Suit” ‘s writer’s craft more. I like how the poet used imagery when he was describing his suit and the cherry bomb chocolate.Just thinking about that ice cream dripping down his chin, I want some! This poem has alliteration, too. The alliteration in this poem is terrific tie and striped suit.
    I choose “The New Suit” as the winner.
  19. The poem “The Falling Star” is more meaningful to me because it’s talking about how you have to cherish thing, and that some things can’t be bought or sold.
    I can make a connection to “The New Suit” because I know how it feels to wear something to dinner but you end up having something like cake or ice cream, but you can’t dig in and be messy.
    I like “The New Suit’s” writers craft better. One of the writer's craft that was used was imagery. A example of imagery is, “Striped suit, terrific tie.” Another type of writer’s craft is alliteration. For example, “Striped suit or terrific tie.” I choose The Falling Star as the winner.
  20. I choose “The New Suit” is funny. This poem is meaningful to me when he says, “I’m going to wear old clothes next time so I can have fun.” This poem means more because I think of memories of when I’m having fun.
    I can make a connection of when I go to birthday parties and I just what to have fun. Instead of having to miss all of the guides.
    This poem has imagery. For example, when he describes the suit. Also when he describes the ice cream is dripping down his shirt. This poem also has alliteration. For example, when it says striped suit, and terrific tie. I hope you choose “The New Suit”.
  21. A connection I made to “The Falling Star” was that I can remember seeing a starry sky with imagination and wonder in my brain.
    The meaning of “The New Suit” was that you can’t look nice and have a lot of fun to.
    Some writers craft in “The Falling Star” was visualization some example where “the beautiful way I see it roll down the sky” and when it said “To pretty to be bot or sold”.
    I chose “The Falling Star”.
  22. Which poem's meaning is more important to you?
    What personal connection can you make?
    Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Poet's craft can include repetition, word choice, rhyme, simile/metaphor, etc.
    The one that is more important is “the new suit.” I liked this because the imagery that I could see was the best out of all the poem.’s For example the new suit I could see him with the striped suit. I could also see him at the big party just feeling embarrassed because he was in a suit when know one else was.
    The connection I can make is right before school started, I needed a suit. Me and my mom went and got a blazer, and I was so happy to get where it. At the first church service i was wearing it and felt so good. I could not imagine what it would of felt like if I went to school and everyone was wearing their normal clothes.
    The reason why i chose this poem is the imagery weather it is me seeing the fantastic tye or the crowd looking at him because he did not have the right clothes. I chose “The New Suit.”
  23. “The Falling Star” has more meaning to me. I think this because not taking things for granted is very important to me. It is like only having one shot and making it your best. You only have one shot to wish on a star.
    I can connect to “The New Suit” because I have tried not to eat very much sugar at a party, but failed completely. I ate cake, ice cream, Jolly Ranchers, gummy bears, and a snow cone.
    “The Falling Star” has great imagery. For example, “I saw a star slide down the sky,” and “Too burning and too quick to hold”. Repetition is also in “The Falling Star”. It is in the same sentence. “Too burning and too quick to hold”.
    I choose “The Falling Star” as the winner.
  24. The poem “The Falling Star” has more meaning to me since she is explaining to me that a falling star [or shooting star] can only be wished on, not sold or held. But your wish will only stay for a little while for you to wish on it. It tells me that wishes are little moments in our life, and we should know that that’s your chance, don’t leave it behind, for you’ll never see it again.
    I can make a connection to “The Falling Star” because I’ve made a wish too, a wish that I could only do then, but I haven’t finished my wish yet. I know that the wish I made will only come true if I do it at that time, or I will not be able to make my wish come true.
    I think that “The Falling Star” has better writer’s craft. I especially like its rhyming. For example, if it didn’t have rhymes, it would probably not sound as good. Ex: sky and through would not sound as good as sky and by. Another example is that the rhymes have the same sound at the end that is spelled the same way, like hold and sold.
    This is why I choose “The Falling Star”.
  25. The First poem, “The Falling Star” has more meaning to me because it talks about how a star is siding down the sky. It says that it is so lovely to be sold. What I think this means is that. You can’t sell anything that is nature. This is what I think the meaning of the poem is.
    I can connect to the poem , “ The New Suit” because once when I was little I dressed up for a party. When I ot to the party I could not have fun because I was to caught up in protecting my clothing. This a connection I can make with the poem , “ The New Suit”.
    The poem, “ The New Suit” to me has better writer’s craft . I think this because of it’s great imagery. For example, the first stanza says, “Striped suit, terrific tie,buttoned shoes, Brown socks. I can just imagine that outfit. Another craft I saw was Alliteration. For example, “Striped suit, terrific tie,”This is only a fraction of craft I saw.
    As the winner I chose , “ The Falling Star”
  26. I really like “ New Suit,” it has a lot of meaning to me. One meaning to me is that I have definitely been to a party and people have told me to not drip ice cream on my dress. Another reason why It has a meaning to me because my dad hates it when I taunt him. On do not spill that do not spill this when he has a new suit.
    My connection is what I just said as the meaningful. It is all that stuff up their , but I have one more. My connection is that I am Going to a party today and I have to wear a really nice dress. I hope that they don’t give me rules on how to wear my dress.
    The writer's craft that I really liked was probably the imagery. For example, You could see a person telling the guy that is wearing the new suit don’t drip ice cream or don’t drip juice it will make a mark. That is why I choose “ New Suit.”
  27. The Poem that is most meaningful to me is “The Falling Star” because I like how it says it doesn’t just fly by it slides by. I also like how it says “And then forever to be gone.” because when you see a shooting star you not going to see that exact one.
    I can make a connection to “The Falling Star.” Once I saw a shooting star, but I only saw it for a brief second. So I ran into My house and told my parents. Now I know what she means by it sliding down the sky.
    I like Nidia Sanabria De Romero’s craft because it has alliteration. For example, striped suit and terrific tie. There is also repetition. For example, they say a lot of recommendations. They also said that they learned something from that experience: Wear old clothes next year.
    I choose the “The New Suit”
  28. The poem “The Falling Star” is more meaningful to me because me and my family watch the stars. It also has great rhymes. For example, “ too quick to hold too lovely to be bought or sold”.
    The poem “ The New Suite” is a silly and funny poem. This poem reminds me when I have to be really careful to keep my close clean.
    I choose “The New Suit” as the winner because it has great imagery! For example, “ striped suit, a terrific tie, buttoned shoes and brown socks- my outfit for the party.” Also, “chocolate bombs that might explode.”
