Here is an example of advanced/proficient writing:
Mother to Son has a more important meaning to me because it is talking about a
woman who was probably a slave telling her boy that life isn't going to be easy and
I really think that goes close to my heart. And I feel bad for them.
My connection is with the poem, Casey at the Bat. I have been on a softball team before and struck out when my team really needed a hit. I can imagine how the fans and the player feel when the game is over and they do not win.
I like Mother to Son's poem craft more because it rhymes better and the way it is
written sounds like the mother is from the South. For example, she says, "I'se been a-climbin' on" and "turnin' corners". I also enjoyed that the poem is a metaphor comparing life to a flight of stairs that is hard to climb. The poet's mother encourages him to never give up but keep trying even though life is hard.
I think the first poem ,'' The Falling Star,'' is about someone who is dreaming and they dream big and that makes me feel that it means more.
ReplyDeleteI can make a connection with ,'' The Falling Star,'' because a lot of times I dream for things I want to do when I get older.
I like ,'' The Falling Star's,'' writers craft better for example , you can visualize someone watching a shooting star and making a wish. It also rhymes as in sky and by. I choose as the winner ,'' The Falling Star.''

The poem “The Falling Star” is more meaningful to me because the women was saying the star was so precious, and that you can’t buy it or sell it. She also said that it would be gone forever after you see it.
ReplyDeleteI can make a personal connect to “Who Has Seen The Wind”” because I can connect to the poet because I also can’t see the wind.
I enjoy “Who Has Seen The Wind’s” poets craft more because I find it funny how the author thinks about seeing the wind. It also used personification because the wind doesn’t literally leave the leaves trembling. I choose “Who Has Seen The Wind” as the winner.
-Trey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I choose “Who Has Seen the Wind?” because I can make a personal connection, It has writer’s craft, and I can identify the meaning of the poem. Also, I did not like “The Falling Star”. I can make A personal connection , too. When it says “Who has seen the wind neither I nor you, but when the leaves hang trembling the wind is passing through.”, I feel like she was trying to say that Jesus is passing by even though you can't see him.I think the reason she wrote this poem was about my personal connection. This poem has A rhyme scheme, stanzas, and Personification. This is why I choose “Who Has Seen the Wind?”

ReplyDeleteI like “ Choosing Shoes more because it says there are so many awesome stuff out there but you can’t always choose what you get.
A connection I made was I want to get Dobbie a new cactus but my dad wont let me get it.
It has more rhyming and it ends with him saying he doesn't like shoes his parents get him.I also like the alliteration I like when it says “pretty pointy” or “buckle shoes bow shoes”.I also like the listing for example red and pink and blue shoes that's why I chose “Choosing Shoes”.

“The Falling Star” I think has a more important meaning. For example, I felt that it was telling me to wish while I can, cause you only have one chance.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to “Who Has Seen the Wind” because sometimes I wished I could see the wind.
I like “The Falling Star” writer craft more because of its rhymes. For example, sky and by, hold and sold, and on and gone. It also had great alliteration. For example, star slide is alliteration. That is why I picked “The Falling Star”.

“Who Has Seen the Wind” is more meaningful to me because I really think Christina Rossetti gave me something to think about that I have never thought about.
ReplyDeleteThe connection that I have to “Who Has Seen the Wind” is that I have never thought about that I have never seen the wind. I always thought that when it was cold I thought I could see the wind but I could see my breath.
I like Christina Rossetti’s craft more because I like how she says,”Neither I nor you;” and “Neither you nor I” I liked How she switched you and I. I also like how she says that no one has seen the wind because I have never thought of that.
I chose “Who Has Seen the Wind.”
I choose “ The Falling Star” this poems meaning is loving and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI can make a conexion with horses I love them so much so I don’t what to hold them back.
Imagery is in The Falling Star. For example, I can see the star falling down from the sky, and will not hold it back. Another one is rhyming. For example, sold and hold, sky and by.
Sloane
The first poem, “ Who has seen the Wind” has more meaning to me because the message is that even though you can’t see the something it sometimes still could be there. Take for an example, a dog passing away. Even though the dog is not there. Their love is there.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to the poem, “ Who has seen the Wind” because a year ago my pug died . she was not there I could still feel the fun times we had together.
The poem with the better writers craft was, “ The Falling Star”. For example, there was great imagery in the first two lines[ I saw a star slide down the sky, Bliding the north as it went by.] Another writer’s craft I saw was rhyme scheme. For example, the rhyme was AABBCC.
My winner is the poem , “ Who has seen the Wind”
I like ¨The Falling Star¨because it is about a star sliding across the sky beautiful brilliant sunset of a summer valley.
ReplyDeleteSome connection I had is watching fireworks brilliant with all of itś radiant colors or looking up in amazement at the starry night sky.
Some Writers craft was visualization I could image the beautiful and bright star roll down the sky or imagine the nice glint of the star.

“Roger the dog” has a good meaning to me. The reason I like “Roger the dog” because I can really see what the dog looks like and how he plays.
ReplyDelete“If” is about a father talking to a son telling him to be a man. I have a connection with this poem because my dad has gave me advice. I think this poem has a good lesson.
I choose “Roger the dog” as the winner because I can really see it. I like the Rhyme scheme. For example, aabb in “Roger the dog. I think the meaning of “Roger the dog” better and how the writer told the bad stuff about him.
Mack
The meaning of the poem “Roger the Dog” was more important to me because it is about a animal. I also liked that it was funny.
ReplyDeleteMy connection was with “If” because I have had one of those conversations with my dad before.
I liked “Roger the Dog’s” writer’s craft more. For example, AABBCCDDEEFFGG was the rhyme scheme. Also, I liked the alliteration. For example, digs down deep, and dinner dish.
I chose “Roger the Dog” for the winner.
-Mac
“Roger the Dog” means more to me because it is really funny, and I like how he only uses his energy to eat.

I liked the writer’s craft more in “Roger the Dog.”I liked the imagery in the poem, especially when it said,”He rolls in cowclap up to his eyes.”This poem shows another writer’s craft called rhyme scheme. This poem has a rhyme scheme of AABBCCDDEEFFGG
ROMAN
I feel like “If” is more meaningful. It’s talking about a man and he is talking to his son and saying if you can dream but not make dreams your master you will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI can make a connection to “Roger the Dog.” For example, it says he’s just a sack of snoring dog, you can lug him like a log. When my dog is asleep he snores and I can pick him up.
I think “Roger the Dog” should win. I think this because I liked the atteration. For example, digs down deep and, flops flat. I also liked how funny it was. Like, he roles in cowclap up to his eyes!
-Ella
My connection is with the poem ‘’Roger the dog’’ I have a dog named Tucker he loves to roll around, he loves to eat, and he rolls in donkey poop this is why I love ‘’Roger the dog.’’
ReplyDeleteThe other poem is “If’’ It is about a man telling his son that you will be a man when you grow up, and it has a important message because it is saying to every boy that you will be a man no matter what happens
I choose ‘’ Roger the dog’’ It’s Rhyme scheme it is AABB. It, also has imagery I could picture the dog rolling in the grass, and the dog eating. I did not like If because it does not make sense at all. This is why I choose Roger the dog. Michael
“If” has a better meaning to me. One reason is that that the father says to not give up in life. Also, It means how to be a man. This reminds me of how my grandfather tells me about a farm works. Even though he is not telling me how to be a man. To me it is still haelping me. I like how it is a serious poem but the thing I wish it had more of. That would be to have more writters craft. One is that it does not have imagery. Still I like this poem but I think this poem has a great meanig to me. If I feel like I did something wrong I can remember this poem and think that the father is talking to me and I would fell better.
ReplyDelete“Roger The Dog” I can make a conection with it because he likes to have an easier life than other dogs. I can realate to this because I like to be active but I don’t like to try to do more than one thing at the same time. My dog ont the other hand or on the other paw is crazy. For example, If he sees someone new he will jump up on them attack them and fall on the floor. Roger he is lazy I am not exactly like him because I like to more active. I think Roger the dog the author wrote to entertain young readers.
In the end I picked…
“Roger The Dog” because it uses alliteration. For example, digs down deep I think that is kind of cachey and fun to read. It also has some great rhyme scheme Itad an AABB rhyme sheme. Well I hope mine goes to the final four.
-Ron
The first poem “Roger the Dog” is about a dog is about a lazy dog who sleeps 99 percent of the day. I like this poem for the alliteration. Like when it says flops flat. It means alot to me because I know how it feels to have a lazy dog.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem “If” is about a person telling you to always do what you love and to love what you do. This poem means a lot to me because it tells you to keep on going . I like this poem because it also has imagery in the writing.
I chose “ Roger the Dog” as the winner because it talks about things that I have experienced.
-Julia (❤ω❤)

ReplyDeleteI had a better connection with “Choosing Shoes” because I have picked out shoes before.
I liked “Choosing Shoes” writer’s craft more.I liked the rhyme scheme. For example,AAAB AAAB AAAB AAAB.Also, I liked the alliteration. For example, pretty pointy.
I chose “Choosing Shoes” as the winner.
-MAC
The poems “Roger the Dog” and “If~” are both ones I can relate to, but I thing that “If~” has a better meaning. I think that “If~” is a more meaningful poem, because it talks about how you can grow up and just like “Mother to Son” you can use it in real life.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to both but the one that I experience more is “If~” , because my dad tells me tips on how to be very good on my own when I get older.
I enjoyed “Roger the Dog’s” writers craft, because it uses funny ilitoraion. For example, “He will just roll in cow claps” and it uses good alliteration. For example, “Dinner dish”.
I hope that “If~” proceeds.
