Dear students,

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s. He led non-violent protests to fight for the rights of all people, including African Americans. He hoped that America and the world could become a place where race would not impact a person's civil rights. He is considered one of the great orators of modern times, and his speeches still inspire us to this day.

Here are some inspirational quotes from MLK:

“No, violence is not the way. Hate is not the way. Bitterness is not the way. We must stand up with love in our hearts, with a lack of bitterness and yet a determination to protest courageously for justice and freedom in this land.”

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy to a friend.”

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

Choose one quote and write the following:

1. The meaning of the quote.
2. How you can apply it to your everyday life (home, school, sports, family, friendships, etc.)
3. One way Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspires you.

I cannot wait to read your responses.

Happy blogging,

You can serve your family. Everybody in your family can serve anyone. Your friends can help anyone anywhere even in the orphanage where there poor. You can give them food and water. That is how you can serve someone.

I think it means loving makes friends.
Don’t judge people from their cover.
    Try being friends with everyone.
Include everyone, and loving is a better than hating. Don't hate only love!

This quote means to me that even if you dislike someone still show kindness and you will have a good outcome. I can use this by being kind to the people I don’t know very well and try to become better friends. Martin Luther King Jr. inspires me because he fought for everyone to be looked at the same way. He wanted people to look at others based on their heart not by their physical appearance. His “I had a dream” speech inspired me because he believed with all his heart and mind that people should be treated equally by everyone.

  4. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy to a friend.”
I think this means to love your neighbor as yourself, even if they are a different color than you are. This means to me to always be loving and caring. We can apply this saying to our everyday lives just by being nice to someone. If someones bringing you down, don’t be hateful back, if everyone did this the world would be a better place. Because of Martin Luther King Jr. when I look at a black person I don’t judge them, they’re the same as me. If Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive right now he would be proud, not just for black people, but for white people too. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired me to be to have repect for people with not the same race for me, and he taught me we are all equal and everyone deseves to be treated that way. Martin Luther King Jr. is an ispiring person who did the right thing when no one else would, he taught us to be ourselves and to be unique, an most of all he stood up for not just African Americans, but for the whole world.

I think it means that this world is far from being perfect. If you think that this world is great how it is there is really lots of evil in this world. This world is nowhere near heaven. Heaven is the only perfect world. Just because you can't see the top doesn't mean there is no reward. God is what should be first in your life. Martin Luther King inspires me because he made a big difference and he taught me that one person can make a big difference.

I feel like this means that you have to like go for it. Like if you sard he is say you don’t know until you try. I can use this in everything I do, because sometimes I’ve got to be the brave one. I have to take a leap of faith. MLK inspires me by knowing that I can do great things like him I just have to take a leap of faith.

  9. I chose the quote” Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve” . This means to me that everybody should have equal rights to do what they want, not just white people. I can connect to this in my everyday life by instead of going “ewww it’s an african American!” I can instead make friends with them and be kind to them. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspires me because he stood up for the African American. He didn’t care if he had to go to jail he was brave.

  11. “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy to friend.” I think this means you can’t be friends with someone If you don’t like them. Also, if you don’t like someone but you use love for them that is the most possible way for them to become your friend. Another reason is, you can be like their out of the crowd, or they won’t be your best person. Love is the only way you can become friends with a enemy. Lastly, if your a enemy with someone there is no possible way you love them, so it is good to love everybody. Roman

  12. I chose the quote “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy to a friend.” This means if you have an enemy and he hates you don’t hate him back share your love. It could also mean if he hits you don’t hit him back but also say something kind. You could you say some good qualities about him. Then the net day you treat each other like a best friend. This means to me that if someone is bulling you or being mean to you be kind back to them. I can use this quote when my sister is being mean to me I can stop and say or do something nice. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspiers me by for fighting for his opinion.

  13. My favorite quote by Martin Luther king jr.is “No, violence is not the way. Hate is not the way. Bitterness is not the way. We must stand up with love in our hearts, with a lack of bitterness and yet a determination to protest courageously for justice and freedom in this land.” This quote means to me that we can’t hold a grudge or be mad at someone your whole life. You need to forgive and love each other with forgiveness. This applies to me because I will get mad at people sometimes but it teaches me to forgive people. I will try my hardest to do this roll every day of my life.Thank you Martion for making the world a better place.

This means to me that no mater how hard you try to drive out evil with evil nothing will happen. Only good can drive out evil. You can push with all your hate to try to drive out hate noting will happen but more and more hate. Only love can drive out hate. I will use this in my life if some one make me mad I will not try to drive them out with hate but with love.

This quote means to me to not hold grudges against someone else, for we should always forgive each other even when it is hard. We shall not show hatred to other people even if they are outside our races, though instead we shall show LOVE to everyone! WWJD (what would JESUS do?) Equality is VERY important, “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. Sadly some people in this world have not learned this yet and are still racist, but we shouldn’t hold grudges against them. Give them a second chance no matter what! They need GOD’s love more then ever!

  16. No, violence is not the way. Hate is not the way. Bitterness is not the way. We must stand up with love in our hearts, with a lack of bitterness and yet a determination to protest courageously for justice and freedom in this land.” This quote means to me that being violent, bitter,or hating will not get you anywhere. Such as, if you were violent to anybody you saw nobody would like you or want to be with you. On the other hand if you were very loving and positive people would want to be around you. I can apply this by going out of my way to be loving and nice to people. MLK inspires me because he showed us how to move a nation without being violent or bitter.

  17. “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

I think this quote means everybody should be treated equally. I also think it means that anybody's dream can come true. I really like this quote because it makes me follow my dreams . I think Martin Luther King Jr. had some really good quotes but this one is the one that most makes sense to me. That is why I really like that quote. He inspires me because it can make anybody do what they want.

This quote means that if something bad happens, don’t cry about it. Crying won’t do anything, other than making your skin dry, your nose runny, and you throat hoarse. Instead, think of ideas to calm yourself down. Be okay with yourself. This quote also means that if you are mad, don’t yell at other people. They don’t deserve it. They deserve a happy life, even if they did something bad. Insted, try to state why you are feeling this emotion. It is probably just a misunderstanding.

The meaning of the quote “ Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,” is like if everybody can serve the Lord they can be great. That one quote applies to my life by saying I mean everybody can be great if they believe. Here is 1 way that Martin Luther King JR inspires me is well to treat any body even if they are thin, fat, short, tall, brown, or white just treat them nicely no matter what. He also inspires me to be whoever I want to be to just try your best.

  21. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

The meaning of the quote is if you hate somebody that someone can’t hate you to make it better they can only love you to make it better.
In school when we are playing a game in PE and I mess up. If a person gets really mad at me and I get mad at them for getting mad at me I don’t say, “I’m not going to talk to you any more.” I can say,”Please don’t get mad at me it was a mistake.”
MLK inspires me because he wasn’t afraid to give his speech. I would definitely be afraid because what if someone shot me. MLK did not think about the “what ifs” he just did it.

  22. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

I really like this quote from MLK. It means when someone is unkind to another person, it can affect everybody. It just spreads. For example, if somebody is mean to another person, it will act as a loop. MLK is inspiring me to help no matter how dangerous it can be. This can help me in my life when my brothers are making me angry, I can just walk away. MLK is one of the few people who chose not to be in the loop. He chose peace.

To me this means its ok to take risks even if you don't know what will happen at the end. Also just being flexible. How I can use this is trying new things. When I eat or play something, I do not know what will happen. But i can try and see if I like it. MLK inspires me because he knows people as equal not by skin, how much money they have, and where they live. And he is kind and supports God.

Love people but do not hate people who don't look like you. For example a girl named Ellie and her friends saw a boy that was black. The girls thought it was a good idea to bully him. A girl named Sarah saw this happen and came to stand up for him. She new it was not a good idea. She did this because she remembered MLK's speech and what he said.
    The End

I think this came help me understand not bully people but let them have the light of life.

  25. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere
This means if your not being treated fairly then everybody loses. That's like when they couldn’t drink from the same water fountain. That means to me We loses as a team. And win as a team.
He inspires me because he was a fighter and never gave up. He also fought for what he wanted even after he got put in jail. This can apply when i’m at school because if I’m mean to someone then that will carry on. For example my dad yelled at me and that made me start to cry so then I got mad at him back even when it was not intentional. That's how I could use that in my everyday life.

You can drive out darkness with out using darkness/force but words and actions other than fighting. You can use this in day to day life by standing up to a bully or pointing out something wrong or incorrect in the rules peacefully with our words.MLK inspires me through his beautiful words and speeches like ¨I Have a Dream¨

  28. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
That is a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. It means that if we show goodness in our hearts, we will light up the dark. Darkness will not to that, no matter what. If we show love to others, it will spread love everywhere. Hate is no match for love. It will try to take control, making you do things you shouldn’t do to others. But if you show love from the heart, not the head, hate will lose its’ power.showing haate will cause more, not destroy it. Love is not just a word, it is the most powerful thing on Earth. Nothing can destroy love. Not dark, not hate. Love will last.
He did so much for us to make our lives fair for everyone, especially for people with black skin. We can thank him for what he did for us. Watch over your siblings without getting into fights. Martin didn’t fight. He showed peace to all, no matter what happens. We can help our parents out with taking out groceries, cleaning our rooms, or anything thing that might help them. That will show lots of light and love.
Martin was a huge hero to me. I hope he is for you to!
