  2. Mother to Son meant so much to me because his mom was telling her son about how her life hasn’t been no crystal stair for her and that you should never give up. Keep climbing no matter what just try your hardest. That is why Mother to Son is more meaningful to me.

I can make a connection with Mother to Son because my Mom tells me to never give up, and to try me hardest because if you give it your all you may just succeed, and surpass others with just effort and grit.

I liked the writer’s craft in Life Doesn’t Frighten me. The writer’s craft was Imagery EX: I go boo Make them shoo. Also rhyme scheme EX: Tough guys Fight all alone at night.

  3. I think Mother to son has a deeper meaning because it is a poem about a mom telling her kid to keep going on in life even if it gets hard.

I can make a connection to Life Doesn’t Frighten Me. I sometimes am afraid of storms, but sometimes I am not. So I like to get my wet when it rains and play outside and inside. But when I am outside and it is raining, I sometimes don’t put my hood up because I want to get wet.

I think Life Doesn’t Frighten Me has better writers craft. First it had Rhyme scheme, for example, Bad dogs barking loud, Big ghosts in a cloud. The poem also had repetition because it repeated “Life doesn’t frighten me at all,” alot.

I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me as the winner.

  4. The poem Mother To Son is more meaningful to me because It sounded like that mother was a slave. And I feel bad for slaves that are mothers and have been captured just to mine stuff and work for people greedy, and lazy enough not to do it themselves. I have a connection with Mother to son Because my mom is always telling me to look on the good side and not the bad ones, You will always have bad days and good days. But the main part is to always look on the bright side.

Mother to son is the winner because it used great repetition because it said and in three lines. I also like it because she is telling her son to stay positive and look on the good side.

  5. Mother to Son, has a more important meaning to me. For example, I like how the meaning is a mo telling her son to keep going when life gets rough.

I can make a connection to Mother to son when it says, Sometimes going in the dark with no light. Because, I have been it situations where I feel like the lights have been turned off and there is no way to turn them back on.

I like Mother to Son’s writer’s craft the most. This writer used a lot of metaphors. Two examples of metaphors are when it says, Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair, and, Life has had tacks in it and splinters.

I choose, Mother to Son, as the winner.

  6. To me “Mother to Son” has a better meaning to me because it is about a mother that might have been a slave and that is telling her son life is a wavy road and their are good and bad times and keep on pushing. Also,I thought it met people might be mean to you just keep on pushing.

I have a connection with mother to son because my mom is always telling me the same thing and to keep on pushing.

I like the writer's craft for Mother to son more because I like how it puts imagery in my head when it says And places with no carpet floor. Also, I like when it says at the beginning and the end when it says Life ain't been no crystal stair.

  7. I think Mother to Son has a better meaning because my parent are always teaching me lessons. In the poem, it is about a mother talking to her son about how when times get tough and you just have to keep going.

My connection with Mother to Son is my parents and sometimes my sister. They’re always teaching me lessons about how to be more polite or concentrating on something to get it right.

I choose Mother to Son because of the writer's craft. I like the repetition because it repeats a sentence at the beginning and end. The sentence is, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair”. I also like the rhyme scheme because it goes like, ABCD and most of the other poems have AA or BB.

  8. Mother to son l, is more meaningful to me than the other poem. I like how it is about a mother telling her son that life doesn't always come easy.

I can connect because my mother and father tell me life is not going to be easy sometimes.

Mother to son has a better writer’s craft to me than the other poem. I think it used repetition when it said “ life ain't no crystal stair” twice in the poem. I also think that it used Imagery when it said “ Life for me ain't been no crystal stair” i imagined a crystal stair.

The winner is Mother to Son.

  11. Mother To Son means more to me. I think a mother who has gone through segregation is telling the story. She is telling her son people aren't going to treat you right even though you did nothing wrong. They will make you work and they will whip you but you have to stay strong stay brave.

I have a connection to Mother To Son. My mom always says be careful or try you hardest. Last night she said it's better to get 29/41 right than get all wrong.

Mother To Son has good writers craft.I saw repetition when it says”And(line 4-6) I saw imagery when it said”splinters(line 4) boards all torn up(line 5)

  13. For my winner i chose drum roll please sssssssssssssssssssss Mother to son.woooooooo. To me it means that you have to keep trying and never give up. Also the mom was telling the son that she has been through alot and she never gave up.

Well the book i'm reading is about a slave and she’s trying to get a job as a slave but everyone says no and the mother is like just keep trying never give up. But it’s a girl not a boy.

For the writer's craft it had metaphor, and repetition.

Mother to son vs life doesn't frighten me

  14. The poem that is more meaningful to me is mother to son. Because my mother always is so intriguing, and always looks at the bright side of everything.

I have a connection to mother to son. My mom and brother are close, and so my mom always cheered him up.

One writer's craft is imagery when they say boards torn up and splinters . when I just hear that I can just really see it. Also when it says life for ain't been no crystal star that tells me that it is metaphor

  15. I like Mother To Son because means more to me. First of all, it means that life isn’t always going to be a trip on the yellow brick road, but is going to be like going through thorn bushes. You’ll get scraped up and lead in different ways in life. You might end in a bad place or a good place, but keep on running no matter what.

I also like Mother to son because I connect to it a little. Like I sometimes have a little talk with my mom or dad when i’m going through a tough time. Either when people don’t like me or my friends don’t really hang out with me for a long time or even when I am just not happy, my mom and my dad explain to me why or how I could change that .

The writer’s craft in Mother To Son is personification because in the last part of the story it says, “ And life ain’t been no crystal stair,” and that is personification because life can’t be a crystal stair. The second type of writer’s craft is repetition because I it says and over and over and over again. It probably says and about 7 times or mabey 12 times.

I don’t dislike Life Doesn't Frighten Me but, I think Mother To Son won! It is totally stellar!

One connection I can make with the poem is that my mom told to that life is not easy and to take time in life.

In this poem it I noticed two writer’s craft. One was imagery as I read I was imagining how the story was told. Another writer’s craft it used was repetition it repeated the phrase”Life for me ain't been no crystal stair two times.

I chose Mother to Son as the winner!

  18. The poem,”Mother to Son”,is the one that I thought had the deeper meaning because it’s talking about how a mother had a hard life but she never gave up and she wants her son to do the same.

“Mother to Son” is also the one that I made a connection with because a lot of the books that I read are about how someone was a slave for most of their life, but they never gave up, even when they thought they could go no farther.

I think “Mother to Son” has the better poet’s craft because the whole poem is basically a metaphor about someone comparing their life to a crystal stair. For example, a line in the poem is,”Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” Also, this poem used imagery when it said,”It’s had tacks in it,and splinters, and boards torn up,” I got a picture of a worn out staircase in my mind.

I choose Mother to Son as the winner!

I think “Mother to Son has a deeper meaning. It is very heart touching because she knows that her son is not going to have an easy life so she is telling him to keep trying.

I like the poet’s craft of,“ Life Doesn’t Frighten Me,” more. I like the imagery of the poem when it says, “ Shadows on the wall noises down the hall.” I also liked the repetition of the line,
“ life doesn’t frighten me at all.” All these things make the poem, “ Life Doesn’t Frighten Me,” have the best poets craft.

For example the woman said, “ Life has tacks in it, and splinters, and torn up boards, and places where no carpet on the floor.” I think the woman was probably a slave, or very mistreated in life.

My connection with Mother to Son is text to text because I have read a book called Pink and Say because the family in that book were slaves and mistreated. I really feel bad for the woman in Mother to Son and Pink and Say.

I really liked the writer’s craft in Mother to Son because the woman is giving a simile. she said, “life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” That means life has not been easy for her. A poet’s craft for Life Doesn’t Frighten Me is imagery. For Example He says, “Panthers in the park strangers in the dark.” I pick Mother to Son for the winner of these two.
