Poetry Madness: Game 8

Read Game 8 poems. Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

Here is an example of a proficient blog post:

The first poem, Do you Carrot all for me?, is about someone expressing their feelings in vegetables.

The second poem, The Castle in the Fire, is about a knight who saves a princess.

I picked The Castle in the Fire because it had more detail, it is a story, and it also has alliteration. For example, the author says, "Then, while we watch in wonder." That's why I chose The Castle in the Fire.

  1. The first poem, life doesn’t frighten me, is about nothing scares me at all. It saying don’t be scared.

The second poem, Some One, is about someone knocked on my door but I don’t know what it was. Their is all the nature but that wouldn't be it.

I choose, Life Doesn’t frighten me, because I can always trust in god to make me not scared. I sometimes scared of some things, one time at my house it was me and my older brother. Someone knocked on our door and we got very scared, we hid. The truth was it was just a FedEx man. Their is some couplets in Some One. There is repetition and couplets in Life Doesn’t Frighten Me.

The next poem is called life doesn't frighten me it is about someone who is saying all the things that do not frighten that person.

I choose life doesn't frighten me. One writer's craft is repetition because it says life doesn't frighten me two times. Another writer's craft is rhyme scheme which is aaa bb a cc a dd a. These are the reasons why I chose this poem.

  4. The first poem, Some One, was about a someone that was wanting or waiting for someone to come, and the person maybe got anxious or excited and realized no one was there. AKA he got ding dong ditched.

The second poem, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, is about a girl giving a bunch of scary things that don’t frighten her because she chooses not to let frighten her. Also there were some couplets in the poem. Also rhyme scheme and imagery.

I choose. . . Life Doesn’t Frighten Me because I liked the couplets and the rhyme scheme in the poem. Also, it made a lot more sense than SomeOne. Also it is just plain out better. So that is why I am picking Life Doesn’t Frighten Me.

The second poem, Some One, Is about someone who heard a knock on the door, but no one was their.

  6. The first poem, Some One, is about how someone came knocking at their door but they don’t know who it was. The person who knocked ran away before the other person could see who it was.

The second poem, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, is about all the scary things in the world but none of them frighten her. The only thing that could frighten her are her dreams.

I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me as the winner because I thought it was very inspiring. It shows repetition because after every two lines it almost always says the sentence, “ Life doesn’t frighten me at all.” It also had couplets in the poem. For example, “Shadows on the wall, noises down the hall” was the first couplet. This is how Life Doesn’t Frighten Me shows writer’s craft.

  7. The first poem is called someone. This is about a man who thinks he hears someone knocking at his door and keeps checking and there is no one there. I like this because it used great repetition. For example, “i’m sure-sure-sure.” I also liked how it used onomatopoeia. for example, “The screech owls call.”

The second poem is called life doesn’t frighten me. This is about a girl who is afraid of nothing in life. For example, she is not afraid of a mad mother goose, a frog or a snake, a ghost, and so on. I also like it because it used a rhyme scheme of (aaabbb)

I choose life doesn’t frighten me because it used a couplet rhyme scheme and metaphors.

  9. The first poem, Life Doesn't Frighten Me, is about a person who says that nothing can frighten her at all. For example, like ghosts in a cloud or alone at a park all night, all that does not scare that person.

The second poem, Some One, is about a person who heard a knock at the door and looked outside to see who it was, but there was nothing. The only thing there was was a busy beetle tapping on the wall and the screech-owl’s call.

I choose Some One as the winner because it was really good. I think it had a lot of imagery because it made more sense and painted a better picture in my mind. The first type of writer’s craft is imagery because like I said, it made a lot more sense and painted a picture in my mind that was perfect for the story. The second type of writer’s craft is Repetition because in one part of the story it said some one one line apart. Those are my reasons why I think Some One won!

I also liked how it came up with these other crazy ideas and they still were not afraid of them. I think it used rhyme scheme when it said “ Mean old mother goose lions on the loose”. I also think it used imagery when it said “Panthers in the park strangers in the dark” I imagined panthers that were at the park and I imagined strangers in the dark.

  14. The first poem, “Someone,” is about a person who knocked on another person’s door, so the person who did not knock on the door came to check it out but he found nothing. Then the poem is telling you what the person who came to the door is hearing. For example, the screech-owl call. The poem uses repitition and has a rhyme scheme of: AABBBB. I think the poem’s message is just reminding you of nature and what noises can happen, or when you think something is there but it is not.

The second poem, “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me,” is about probably an elementary school kid that is thinking of her future and how she is not going to be frightened by anything! The poem has a rhyme scheme of: AABBACCADDAEEFFGGHHAIIAJJAKKLLAAAA. The poem also has repitition. For example, Life doesn't frighten me at all. The poem’s message I think is that you can make it through anything if you stay focused.

I choose, “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” because I think the message is awesome, and the poem has repitition, a huge rhyme scheme, and a good beat. But I will say that the poem, “Someone,” had a good message to and it was had some good writer’s craft in it.

The second poem, Some One, is about a man hearing a knock at the door and not knowing what it is and checking it out. When he goes outside he sees nothing but the dark night.

I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me because it’s a good story about a girl who isn’t scared about scary things and isn’t scared about life. This story had rhyme scheme. For example, “ Shadows on the wall Noises down the hall.” This story also had repetition because it repeated the same line, “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me at All,” alot. That is why I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me as the winner.

Thing that I thought was really the winner was that I like scary stories and this one that seems pretty scary. The thing that makes it scary is the imagery for ex: Big ghosts in a cloud or strangers in the dark. Imagining that makes me get the chills. Also the rhyming in it is good. The rhyme scheme is AAAB Etc:
And that is why I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me as the winner.

I also like it because I think that sometimes we are scared but God is not and he can help us. One of the writer’s craft was rhyme scheme. For example, AAABB… Another writer’s craft was imagery. For example, when it says tough guys fight in the dark night it put a picture in my mind. I really liked this poem.

I mostly enjoyed, Life Doesn't Frighten Me because the person sounds like a kind and brave person who I would want to be friends with. This girl doesn’t care what other people think of her and just acts no one did anything wrong. This poem uses a rhyme scheme . (AABCCB).....

This poem also has repitition in it. It says, “Life doesn't frighten me at all” more that once.

  31. The first poem, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, Is about a man saying that life doesn’t scare him. Life does not scare the man if he sees a lion on the loose, it does not scare him if he sees panthers in the park.

The second poem, Some One , is about a man saying that someone knocked on his door but when he opens the door nobody is there except for the sound of the crickets, screech owls screech, and the dewdrops falling.

I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me as the winner because I liked the way the man in the poem tells us how he is not scared of anything. I think it was funny that the man said, “Bad dogs barking loud big ghosts in the cloud,” and more. Another thing I thought was funny was that the man said, “I go boo make them shoo I make fun way they run I won’t cry I just smile they go wild.” That is why I picked this poem for the winner.

  32. Some One is about a guy who thinks someone knocked on his door but all he hears and sees is animals and bugs.

Life doesn’t frighten me is about someone and almost nothing frightens them. Except their dream there's a quote that goes well with this poem it is, If your dreams don’t scare you they’re not big enough.

I choose Life doesn’t frighten me. Some of the writer's craft is rhyme scheme example: shadows on the wall noises down the hall. The poem also has some repetition when it repeats that doesn’t frighten me. It has a tiny bit of imagery when it is saying what they are not scared of. Though my favorite part is that they are very brave and they have no fears.

  33. The first poem “ Life Doesn’t Frighten Me” is about a girl who is frightened by nothing and if she is afraid at all, it is in her dreams. I really like the rhyme and the rhyme of the poem, for example, the author said “ I go boo, make them shoo, I make fun, way they run.

The other poem “ Someone” is about someone knocking at a small door at night. But when them owner opened the door, there was nothing but the sounds of insects and owls hooting.

I choose Life Doesn’t frighten Me as the winner because I think the meaning of it is that nothing frightens God and Jesus. Also, at the end of them poem, it said “ I can walk on the ocean floor and never have to breathe” but only God and Jesus can do something that amazing .I also really like how in the poem it says “ I,ve got a magic charm that I keep up my sleeve,” which I think is love because the two most important rules of God are to “Love God and love each other.” That is why I choose Life Doesn’t frighten Me as the winner.

  34. The first poem, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, is about someone who can face many things life throws at her and not get scared. I liked how the author repeated the same line throughout the poem,”Life doesn’t frighten me at all.”
The second poem, Some One, is about someone who heard a knock on their door and looked outside. They saw no one and heard nothing but a beetle, an owl, and a cricket. I liked how only the long lines rhymed, and not the short lines. It put a twist to the poem that made it fun.

I chose Life Doesn’t Frighten Me because the author made a lot of examples of things that doesn’t scare her like noises and shadows in the hall. The rhyme scheme was AAABB. I liked how the author used repetition with the words,”Life doesn’t frighten me at all.” Life Doesn’t Frighten Me was definitely the winner.
