- What personal connection can you make?
- Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Be sure to give examples.
- Poet's craft can include: repetition, imagery, personification, rhyme, alliteration, couplets, onomatopoeia, simile/metaphor, etc
Make sure your answer is detailed and explains the three bullet points.
Here is an example of advanced/proficient writing:
Mother to Son has a more important meaning to me because it is talking about a
woman who was probably a slave telling her boy that life isn't going to be easy and
I really think that goes close to my heart. And I feel bad for them.
My connection is with the poem, Casey at the Bat. I have been on a softball team before and struck out when my team really needed a hit. I can imagine how the fans and the player feel when the game is over and they do not win.
I like Mother to Son's poem craft more because it rhymes better and the way it is
written sounds like the mother is from the South. For example, she says, "I'se been a-climbin' on" and "turnin' corners". I also enjoyed that the poem is a metaphor comparing life to a flight of stairs that is hard to climb. The poet's mother encourages him to never give up but keep trying even though life is hard.
I think Roger the Dog is more important to me because it reminds me of my older dog that used to always sleep.
ReplyDeleteI think Roger the Dog is a better meaning to me because I used to have a dog that always used to nap and eat.

I think the poem, “Who Has Seen The Wind,” had a deeper meaning to me because it is like if someone died or someone that is close to your heart died, it is like you are halucinating and see the dead person. I just really like the message that it gives you.
ReplyDeleteI can make a big connection to, “Who Has Seen The Wind” because my greatgrandmother had died two years before we spread her ashes, and when we were over the bay that she spent her life near I felt like she was on the boat with us. I don’t know, maybe or maybe not?
But that is just a connection I made.
So the poem, “Who Has Seen The WInd,” has three different writer’s craft: Repitition, rhyme scheme, and two quatrains. For repitition the poem says, “Who has seen the wind,” twice at the beginning of each quatrain. For rhyme scheme it has a tiny one of: AA. For the quatrains there are two groups of four line stanzas. For the poem, “Roger The Dog,” the poem has two writer’s craft: Similes and a rhyme scheme. One example for a simile is, “Like a miner, into sleep,” then you have a HUGE rhyme scheme of: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH! I think the poem, “Roger The Dog,” should win in writer’s craft.

The first poem, Roger The Dog is about a dog who will never move a muscle except eating his food. All the dog wants to do is lay by the fire and relax, be lazy, and eat his dog treats and food. This poem has a important meaning to me because I never want to move at home either.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about a guy telling us that neither I nor you can see the wind. We can see it through other things actions, we can feel it, but we cannot see it at all. I have a connection with this poem because I can’t see the wind either.
I like Roger The Dog because it has really good writer’s craft. Some of that writer’s craft is imagery because it makes a lot of sense to me and I think it is awesome. Another type of writer’s craft is metaphors because in the poem he compares the dog to a to a stone.

I like IF’s poem craft more because it has really good alliteration example, If you can dream-and not make dreams your master; and I like the Rhyme scheme example AAABCDCD.
I choose IF as the winner.
I think If is really god because it means a lot to me like what if something happened to me and it would also mean a lot to people who always worry about themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think Rodger the dog is really good because it explains a lot about dogs and how he loves his dog and I also love my dog.
I am going with Rodger the dog more because it has a deeper meaning. Another reason is it has a good rhyme scheme.
My connection with Roger The Dog is when I was at my cousins house he has a dog that is really old and all he does is sleep and eat his food and do nothing. When he was outside we put on the trampoline and he just layed down on the side and slept.

The first poem roger the dog has a deeper meaning to me because I have dog and do not want my dog to end up like roger because roger is very lazy and he does not like to play. Unlike my dog. The second I can relate to because the whole poem is about a guy who worries the time about absolutely nothing. I choose Roger the dog because it has good imagery. For example when he is working hard eating. And it has good rhyme scheme. For example it says he works as hard as you think chowing down his dinner plate. I choose roger the dog.
ReplyDeleteI really think Roger the Dog is a good poem about a dog. My connection with Roger the Dog is that I am really lazy. I try to make my sister do everything for me. Roger the Dog reminds me of my grandparents dog who is really calm and sweet. I also like the couplets.
