Here is an example of proficient writing:
The Eagle is about an eagle flying over the sea and close to the sun. Then he is watching the mountain and swoops down like a lightning bolt to catch his prey.
The second poem, Casey at Bat, is about a boy whose baseball team is losing, but there are two people on base. Casey gets two strikes, and the crowd is very upset. Finally, Casey strikes out, and the crowd is outraged.
For the winner, I chose The Eagle. I chose it because it had a deeper meaning and understanding for me. I also liked how used a rhyme scheme of AAABBB. Also, the author used a simile comparing the eagle to a thunderbolt, "He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls." That is why I choose The Eagle.
In If it popped a picture in my head of a dad talking to his son.
ReplyDeleteIn Who Has Seen The Wind there was a tiny rhyme scheme and it is also about how you can’t see the wind.
I choose If because it popped a picture into my head.
I think that If is about trusting yourself and that no matter whatever someone says to you, you can always do it. I like how the rhymesceme goes ABABAB.
ReplyDeleteI think Who has Seen The wind is about how we can not see the wind but when the leafs start to roll away. I love the way he rhymes in this poem.
I think that If should win because because it put a picture in my head. It was great.
I disagree
DeleteThe first poem,Who Has Seen the Wind, is about wind and no one has seen it, but when the leaves hang trembling and when the trees bow down you know wind is coming through. This poem uses a rhyme scheme (ABAB) and it also uses personification (But when the trees bow down their heads).
ReplyDeleteThe second poem,If-, is about how if you can keep trying you will “Be a man,my son!” This poem uses a rhyme scheme(ABAB) and it also imagery to me. It really painted a picture in my mind.
I choose Who Has Seen the Wind as the winner because I thought that the rhyme scheme and personification made it really fun to read. Also, I thought that it also had a little bit of imagery because I really got a picture in my mind of a tree bending down. Who Has Seen the Wind is definitely the winner!
The first poem if was about everything that you could imagine and it had a good rhyme scheme.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem I thought was relaxing and very detailed and it had good rhyme scheme
I choose who has seen the wind because it was a lot more detailed and it had better rhyme scheme and I also thought that the first one I could not really understand that much but this one was very detailed and good alliteration.
I think you did a great job
Deletethis is cruz
DeleteThe first poem, If, is about a father who is telling his son how to be a man and that you need to be your own person and not a follower.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, who has seen the wind, is about how no one has seen the wind but we can all feel it.
I choose If as the winner because it has a deeper meaning. I also choose it because of the ABABCDCDEFEF rhyme scheme. Finally, I choose If because of the imagery and how it paints the picture in your mind. For example, “ if you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk with kings-nor lose your common touch”
First Poem,I think If is really good because it is a good learning experience. I also like there Rhyme Scheme because all of the Rhymes make sense.
ReplyDeleteSecond Poem,I think who has seen is okay because the Rhymes don’t make a whole lot of sense.
The Winner is… If because it teaches a great lesson and it has a great Rhyme Scheme when they say,” With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run Yours is the earth and everything that's in it And-which is more you’ll be a Man my son.
I think you put great detail into it
DeleteIf is about a father giving his son advise. He says, “If you can wait and not be tired of waiting.”
ReplyDeleteHe wants his son to grow in wisdom and strength inside and out.
Who Has Seen the Wind is about using clues to see the invisible wind. Such as, seeing the tree’s branches blowing.
I choose Who Has Seen The Wind because it uses imagery by putting a picture in my mind. It also uses personification by saying, “But when the trees bow down their heads.” I like this poem because it is a real life thing. I choose Who Has Seen The Wind.
I agree
DeleteThe first poem, Who has Seen the Wind, is about howwe cannot see the wind, but we can feel how it is there. I liked the rhyme scheme in this poem because it makes the flow faster. This poem uses rhymes like, you and through and I and by.
ReplyDeleteThe poem, If, is about someone giving advice about being a kind and loving person. I liked this poem because it was long, meaningful, and I liked the rhyme scheme. This poem rhymed words like, you and too and toss and loss.
I chose If beacuse I liked the rhyme scheme. This poem is very good advice for being a nice person, loving one another, not caring what other people think about you, and believing in yourself.
It was great because it put a picture in my head of a dad talking to his son. I think this should win. Go If !!!
In If it popped a picture in my head of a dad talking to his son.
ReplyDeleteIn Who Has Seen The Wind there was a tiny rhyme scheme and it is also about how you can’t see the wind.
I choose If because it popped a picture into my head. I also liked it more because it was very meaningful. Finally I thought the image was sending his son to never do bad things in life.
If is about if you can do something can you do the opposite. And if you can do all of it you will be a man.
ReplyDeleteWho Has Seen the Wind is about everyone does not see the wind ,but you can see the trees reacting to the wind.
In my opinion the winner is Who Has Seen the Wind. It has imagery in it when it is talking about the tree. It also has personificationfor example: But when the trees bow down their heads. Those are my reasons it should win!
The first poem, Who Has Seen The Wind is about a person who is asking people if they have ever seen the wind. Also, they say when the wind does something to a person or object.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, If, is about a person giving advice to another person. They would say like if you can do this, then this would happen or something would happen. after. Also, he/she is saying something could turn out to be bad or good.
I choose If as the winner because I liked how it talked about how if you can do this something may get better or worse. Also, I like how one person is giving advice to the other person about if you can do something. I like the rhyme scheme. For example, one was AAAABAB. I noticed a lot of repetition. For example, it said if a lot at most the beginning of each sentence. I really liked this poem.
The first poem, If, is about if you get down to keep trying and don’t let people stop you if they say you can’t do it.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about how you can’t see the wind but you can feel it.
I chose “If” as the winner because it is more meaningful and tells someone not to give up even though people don’t believe in you. Also I like it because it has rhyme scheme. For example, the rhyme scheme for the first stanza is A,A,A,A,B,A,B,A. Also The moral of the story is that if someone tells you can’t do it. Don’t believe them and do it.
The first poem, If, is about a man preparing his son for life and telling him to be a man.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about how you know the wind is there even though you can’t see it.
I choose Who Has Seen the Wind as the winner because it made more sense to me. The rhyme scheme was A A B B. I really liked the imagery. “But when the leaves hang trembling,” really paints a picture in my mind! The personification is “ But when the trees bow down their heads,” because trees don’t have heads, so they can’t bow down their heads.
The poem Who Has Seen the Wind is about a girl or a boy that talks about who has seen the wind. I like this story because it has an imagery example, “ But when the leaves hang trembling.” It makes me feel like I feel the wind. It also has a really good simile that says “ But when the trees bow down their heads the wind is passing by.
ReplyDeleteThe poem If is about a mom or a dad talking to their son about the mom or the dad giving advice to their son. I like this story because it has a lot of alliteration for example, “ If you can dream and not make dreams to your master.” I also like the rhyme scheme for example, AAABCDCD.
In my opinion the book If is the winner because it has a deeper meaning and because it has advice for people leaving or going to college. I like this because my brother is going to college next year. I also l really really like the alliteration for example, “ If you can dream and not make dreams to your master.
I think the writer of “If” is trying to tell the reader to never doubt yourself in any circumstance. Another thing I think the writer is trying to tell the reader to just be yourself.
ReplyDeleteI think the writer of Who Has Seen The Wind is telling us that you can’t see the wind but you can feel it around you, and maybe the writer is trying to tell us that God is always around us.
My choice for the winner of these two poems is Who Has Seen The Wind. I picked it because it has a actual meaning about God. For Example, the poem is trying to tell us that God is always around you, and you will always feel his presence. This is one of the sentences that make me think about God,”But when the trees bow down their heads, the wind is passing.”
The poem “ Who Has Seen the Wind” is about how nobody can see the wind, but when trees bow down their heads and when the leaves hang, we know that wind is passing by. I like how the author changed the words slightly from the beginning and the end. For example, at the beginning she said, “ Who has seen the wind? Neither I nor you” but at the end she said “ Who has seen the wind? Neither you nor I” Also, she said “ But when the leaves hang trembling, the wind is passing through” But at the end she said, “ But when the trees bow down their heads, the wind is passing by” I also saw personification in the poem when she said “ But when the trees bow down their heads” I know that trees can’t bow down and they don’t have heads so I know that it is personification.
ReplyDeleteThe poem “ If “ is about using integrity and not bragging but being kind. I like the rhymes that are in this poem and I think the rhyme scheme is ABAB CDCD. I also like the ending when the author says “ And-which is more-you’ll be a man, my son!” So I think the author wrote this poem for his son. One specific sentence I like is when the author said “ If you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, and loose and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss.”
I choose the poem “ If” because I really like the meaning and uplifting character of the poem. I also think of the poem as a reminder to be kind, humble, use integrity, and not be jealous. The poem really touches your heart and can help people remember to not brag and not be jealous of other people. That is why I chose “ If “ as the winner.
The first poem, If, is about a parent talking to their son, telling him that if they can believe in yourself but don’t grow an ego. If you can do things to others things they like and not the other way around. If you can tell the truth even when you don’t want to. If you can dream without longing for them. If you can take risks, fail, and start over again without looking back. If you can take unforgiving moments from anyone and move on. Then you can be a man! I love how the rhyme scheme never ended, it was always the ABAB pattern. The author always found different sounds to rhyme, there was never two rhyme schemes with the same sound.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind?, is about how no one has seen the wind but you can see its effect. I liked how the author changed “Neither I nor you” in the first paragraph to “Neither you nor I” in the second and got a rhyme for both.
I chose If as the winner because its morale was touching and the author did an amazing job putting expression in the text. The rhyme scheme was great to, they probably spent a lot of time and effort on this poem. If was definitely the best one yet.
The first poem is about a dad talking to his son about if this happened and do this.At the end it sounds like he is proud when he says” My son!”
ReplyDeleteThe second poem is about a person asking”have you seen the wind?”The person says the trees can see the wind and the wind blows the branches on the trees and we see the trees getting blowed by the wind.
I chose “IF” because it is serious and the dad is getting excited about what is to come.I think the son is probably listening when the dad is talking.I see rhyme scheme it is in the part when it says”master(line 9)and disaster(line 11)”I saw personification when it says” IF you can fill the unforgiving minute”
The first poem, If…, Is saying that if you could do everything perfectly, you would be incredible. I also think that it is trying to prove how no one is perfect, and no one can be perfect.
The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind?, is about how no one has ever seen the wind. It is also about how though the wind can not be seen, there are still ways to it is there.
I choose, Who has seen the wind, as the winner because it had more of a meaning. It also made more sense. The author used a rhyme scheme, for example. When it said, Neither you, Nor I, The wind is passing by. She also used alliteration when she said that leaves tremble.
The first poem, If, is about what you think not what others think of you. You have to trust yourself. Being good without any effect with others. Try to work as hard as you can to get better and be honest with yourself. Don’t lie!
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who has seen the wind, is about have you seen your real self? You haven’t seen it but you are picturing it in your head. Everybody in the world are kind of similar in their own way.
I choose ‘’If’’ as the winner because I don’t care about what others say because i’m made in my own way in that is not in others. I try to make good choices with no one in affect. I try to try to be honest. sometimes it is hard not to lie. Trying to work as hard as you can can take a while.
The first poem, If, ia about a dad talking to his son about how you could be a better man than everyone else. For example, in stanza 1, he says “ If you can keep your head up when they are blaming it on you,” he is telling good advice to be a man.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, it explains that neither you or I can see the wind, but you can recognize it. For example, when he said, “ Whe the heads of trees are laying low, the wind is coming by,it means that when the trees are bending over, the wind is there.
I choose If because it just opens up to me and tells me something. Some reasons are that at the end it says, “ You’ll be a man my son!” that makes me feel like I’m a man since I just read that poem. The writer’s craft in this story is repetition because it always says “ It,” over and over again. Another writer’s craft is imagery because it paints a picture in my mind that a dad and a son are having a little boy talk. These are my reasons why I think If won. Go if!
If vs who has seen the wind
ReplyDeleteSo the fist poem If is about. You can do that and this. it was a little confusing, but it was ok. I also think that he was saying that you make your own decisions. The second one who has seen the wind. Is about the wind and how you can’t see it. I choose who has seen the wind as my winner because of the nice rhymes.
The first poem,If- is about lots of things like ,If you can dream. The format is AAAABCBC.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem is Who Has Seen The Wind,it is about someone asking have you seen the wind and how wind blows through the trees leaves .the format is AABBAC.
I choose Who has seen the wind ,because I like how the personification for example B when the trees hang trembling. That is why I chose Who Has Seen The Wind .
The first poem, Who Has Seen the wind, is about believing things even if you can’t see them. You never see the wind but you always know it’s there
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, If, is about a parent telling their son that if you have an equal amount of wins and losses and everything else that’s good and bad on earth, than the world is yours to have.
I chose Who Has Seen the Wind as the winner because it has a good meaning. For example, it is saying that if you really believe in something than you don’t have to see it to know it’s real. It has repetition because it repeats the line, “Who has seen the wind” twice. The rhyme scheme is A,B,C,B. Who Has Seen the Wind has a very good lesson on believing things you can’t see
The first poem,IF, really made me think about how people can tear us down and we have the choice to either get back up or pout. Also it shows how you need need to be true to yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who has seen the wind, is about you believing that something is there even if you can’t see it like God for example, we believe in even though we can’t see him at all.
I choose IF, because I like that it had a deeper meaning and the poem really made me think. Also it was very interesting. That is why I picked IF
The first poem, If ,is about prsuing liufe even during a hard time. It is kind of like all of the things you should do when times are hard.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who has seen the Wind, is about the wind. It is about many ways you can describe the wind like how it can not be seen.
I chose, If , as the winner because it meant more to me than the wind. It showed me ways to be when times are tough. One of the writer’s crafts was repitition for example when it said “Who has seen the wind” it repeted in the second sentence. The second writer’s craft is rhyme sceme because some lines rhyme with other lines. I liked how it was very uplifting and told you to be strong when things don’t go how you planned they would go.
The poem Who Has Seen The Wind, is about even though they can not see the wind they can sense it.
ReplyDeleteThe poem if, is about a parent telling their son a bunch of things that have if like If you can dream and not make your dream your master. Or if you can make one heap of your winnings and risk it on the turn of the pitch or toss. I think it is telling you to believe in yourself.
I liked who has seen the wind the best because it is almost like a mystery. One writer's craft is Repetition because it says who has seen the wind two times. Another one is Alliteration because it says “ when the leaves hang trembling the wind is passing through,”
The first poem, If, is about a dad telling his son that if the world around you gets tough, to be someone kind and loving. Not to be someone who is mean.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about how the wind is in control, and how it is the one of nature.
I chose Who Has Seen The Wind as the winner because it’s a calming story. I love how “who” and “but” repeated. I also loved how it had rhyme scheme like “you” and “through.” Also, “I” and “by.” That is why I chose Who Has Seen The Wind.
Who Has Seen the Wind talks about even if you can’t see the wind, you know it’s there by seeing things move around you.
ReplyDeleteIf is talking about ways to become a man and to be a son of God.
I vote for Who Has Seen the Wind because I can relate to that by knowing God loves us even if you can’t see Him. I liked imagery because the poem gives me a clear vision of the trees moving in the wind. I also observed the personification because in real life, trees don’t really bow their head.
The first poem IF is about how if you dream to do something you’ve always wanted do not brag because you have something better than someone.
ReplyDeleteThe second WHO HAS SEEN THE WIND? It tells that even though you can’t see something its still there.
I chose WHO CAN SEE THE WIND as a winner because there are some things in life that are real but you cannot see them! For example, I wish I can see a unicorn.WHO CAN SEE THE WIND has tough me that if you can’t see something you can’t stop believing in it,but you can feel it. When it says,’’But when the leaves hang trembling the wind is passing through’’. That meant that the wind is there.
The first poem, “If-,” is about a father telling his son if you trust yourself or belive in yourself then you can make it through anything! He is also telling his son if you can do something that is amazing and helpful to someone without affecting other people then do it! The father is also saying that if some people doubt you just keep on going!
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Who Has Seen the Wind?,” is about the poet telling you if you cannot see maybe a spirit or God but you see evidence of the spirit around you then he is there, but remember you still maybe can not the something.
I choose the poem “Who Has Seen the Wind” because it really talks about if you cannot see something or someone that is close to your heart that died or maybe you lost iot could be there. I also like the repitition that the poet used: “Who has seen the wind?,” the poet wrote that twice. I know this is kind of unusual but Ikind of like how the poet did not use a rhyme scheme because that is kind of new and different from any poem I have ever read.
