Readers,
As a voracious reader, I love discussing books with other lovers of literature. I have joined book clubs, emailed with friends, and sat down over many meals where the conversation turned to what everyone was reading. Books are a part of my life.
However, I have noticed I have certain friends who never fail to disappoint me with their EXCELLENT recommendations. I finally figured out why they are so great at this life skill ...
When recommending a book to me, they give a concise, precise summary of the book. Their summary consists of the main characters, the setting, and the problem. They use literary elementsto explain what the book is about!
I would like for you to write a short summary about the fiction book you are reading, including characters, setting, and the plot (problem/action). Assume I have not read the book and be sure to edit your work.
Here is an example from Ida B.
Ida B
Ida B is about a young girl who lives with her mom and dad on a farm. She is home schooled after an unpleasant experience in kindergarten. She lives a happy life, using her imagination to play on the farm and with her pets. Sadly, her mother gets cancer and Ida B's life is turned upside down. She is heart-broken! She must return to school, where she makes a decision to change into a person with a cold, hard heart.

ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called 11 Birthdays. 11 Birthdays is about a girl named Amanda and a boy named Leo. Amanda and Leo have known each other since birth and have always shared birthdays and birthday parties. On their tenth birthday party, Amanda heard Leo and his boyfriends say a really mean comment about having birthdays parties with a girl. Amanda was furious and sad. Since then she didn’t even want to talk to Leo. A few days before their eleventh birthday Amanda decided that she wasn’t going to invite Leo to her party. Amanda is excited for the day after their birthday because then, she can take her mind off of their x-friendship. But after the day of their eleventh birthday, their eleventh birthday happens all over again.

DeleteThe book I am reading is called Land Of Stories. It is about Two children named Conner and Alex Bailey. They fall into a weird book that their grandmother gave them. They later find out that their grandmother is the fairy godmother. This a great book with lots of weird and funny parts.
ReplyDeleteThe book that I read was Poached by Stuart Gibbs. It’s about a kid named Teddy Fitsroy, and his parents work at the biggest zoo theme park in America. The park gets a new animal and it gets kidnapped. Teddy needs to figure who is is the kidnapper. The animal was from Australia and the animal only eats this food from Australia. Teddy needs to my the animal before it is to late.

ReplyDeleteThe book is called Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. This book is about a boy Brian who gets in a plane crash. After the plane crashes, Brian is finds himself alone in the woods. His mom gave him a hatchet(axe)before he got on the plane. Brian learns how to hunt, make fire, make weapons, and build shelter from dangerous animals. Brian realizes that there is something in the plane. Can Brian stay alive and be rescued?

When Mo was a baby she was lost in a hurricane, and was found by The Colonel and Miss Lana. But then the grumpiest person in town turns up dead. Mo and Dale are determined to find the killer, and lock them up. But the FBI come and also try to solve the murder. Then a hurricane will strike. Could this get any worse. Read the book if you want to find out what happens.

It was about a boy who’s nick name is Suds what everyone in school calls him, he was a third grade angel, but now that he is in fourth grade his friends want him to be a rat. He is worried that he might not turn out to be a rat and make everyone upset. His friend Joey wants to hangout with him so he could teach Suds. Suds has a crush on Judy Billings and he is trying to get her attention so she could like him.

Her life is crazy and her dad is the exterminator at her school which embarrassed her because her dad’s car has a giant bug on the top of it. She also likes this boy named Brandon. Then, enters the talent show.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a great book called Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage. The main character, Mo and her best friend Dale, are detectives. In the story Mo loses her mother in a nasty hurricane when she was a baby. Thankfully, she is found and is taken to live with Miss Lana. Every now and then, Mo will send a jar with a letter in it down a stream hoping her real mom will find it. Her letters always have the the same beginning on it, Dear Upstream Mother, and so on. And now, 11 years later, here she is studying the murder of a friend, Mr. Jessie. She and Dale will connect the clues to figure out who the killer is before he/she strikes again! Is the killer The Colonel, who lives with miss Lana, and seems a little too excited to find the killer? Is it Joe Starr, the suspicious detective who loves to get in other people's business? is it Dale, who got caught in the boat that the murder took place in, or, could it be Mo herself!? You will have to read to find out!!!!

The book club book I am just now done with is Three Times Lucky. The main character is Mo. She lives in a small town with her best friend Dale, The Colonel, Miss Lana, and many more loving people. But then suddenly when Mo’s summer is going great, one of the towns most hated person, Mr. Jesse gets murdered. Then, Mo and Dale open up a detective agency to solve the murder! But then, Mr. Joe Starr and Deputy Marla came from Winston-Salem to try to solve the murder to. Its a competition between Joe Starr and Mo’s detective agency! But there is a massive turn of events! You will have to read to find out!
ReplyDeleteMy book club book is called Shiloh. The setting takes place in a town called Friendly. The problem in the story is that a boy wants to keep a dog but can’t since his parents won’t let him. The solution is that Marty (Marty is the boy) made a deal with the real owner of the dog so he could keep him.
