Dear students,
For your final blog posts, you will write a persuasive paragraph in a series called "Would You Rather." In each post, I will give you a scenario, and you will have to defend your answer using the following criteria:
- A topic sentence stating your opinion
- At least 3 supporting sentences defending your opinion
- One counter argument
- A concluding sentence summarizing your writing
Here is your "Would You Rather" for today:
Would you rather have the ability to see 10 years into your own future or one year into the future of the world?
Please remember to check for mistakes by reading aloud your post to yourself before you publish it. I cannot wait to see what you write!

P.S.-Here is my example:
If I had the choice to have a 3-day weekend every week or have an extra month of summer vacation, I would rather have a 3-day weekend every week. If I had a 3-day weekend instead of 2 days, I would get a lot more done! In addition, I would not have to work as much, and I could spend more time working out, shopping, reading, relaxing, and hanging out with my friends. Plus, I would not feel so rushed on my weekends. I could even go out of town for long weekends and visit family and friends! However, some may prefer an extra month of summer vacation because they could take longer trips. I think the benefits of longer weekends out weigh the benefits of an extra month of summer. I prefer having a 3-day weekend rather than having another month of summer vacation.
I would choose ten years in my own future, over one year in the world’s future. I chose this because then I could know what is going to happen. Like for example, I could know if I will accomplish something great in life. I can also see whether or not I will be famous. My last reason is because then I could see what my kids look like, and who I will marry. However, some people may prefer to see one year in the world’s future, because then you could bet about something and make a lot of $$$. Even though it would be cool to do that, I would still choose ten years in my own future. That is why I think looking ten years into my future is better than looking one year into the world’s future.
ReplyDeleteI would rather go one year in the future than go 10 years in my future. If I could go one year into the world’s future I would see what was new. I would see if any new inventions have come out. Also, I could see if there are flying cars yet! I would like to go in the future one year, some may want to see their future in 10 years. I would not want to see my future because, then when I came back it would change it. Although, going 10 years into my future would be cool, I would rather go one year into the future. That is why I want to go one year in the future. That way I would not mess up my future.

ReplyDeleteThen I could see who would when all the sporting events and be able to see what would happen and make a prediction that something will happen and it would be right. Last I think it would be cool to see all the new technology that is coming out.
Although some may choose see 10 years in their future I would choose to see 1 year in the world's future.
And that is why I choose what I choose.
I would choose seing 1 year into the future, because you can know what will happen and bet that it will.You can also figure out if something bad will happen and avoid it for everyone,and if you bet you can bet money and always win.Some people may argue that you should see Into your future for ten years but to me that seems a little selfish.That is why I choose answer 2.
ReplyDeleteI would want to see one year into the world’s future because I can see if something bad is going to happen. Also, I could bet if something is going to happen and I would always win. Finally I could tell armies where there is going to be a war or something like that. Some people may think seeing ten years into your own future is better but, the only thing you would know is what will happen to you not the world. If you can see one year into the world’s future that also means you can see one year ahead of your future. I think seeing one year into the world’s future is better than only seeing into your own future.
ReplyDeleteI would want to be able to see ten years into the future rather than see one year into the future of the world. I would see what job I would have and what people did to the world. I would see what things changed and what stayed the same. I could see the past and what I had done. I also would want to see where I would live and who with. However some people would rather look 1 year to the world's future. That might be good to do because you could see who stepped up and changed the world or what happened. Even though that will be fun, I would rather ook ten years to the future. I could see what happened to me. I would want to see ten years to my future.
ReplyDeleteI would pick see in 1 year in the world’s future because Then you could see if something is going to happen like a storm, an accident, and a bad disease from new food. I would want to stop that from happening. However, some may say “I want to know my future because I want to know some more about myself.” But I want to see one year in the world's future because you can discover knowledge and creators and even more amazing things. That is why I want to see in the world's future.
ReplyDeleteI would chose to see 1 year in the future for the world. One reason is that I could stop a war from happening. Another reason is that I could see an invention that makes a lot of money and make it before them so I would get that money. You could stop something bad from happening to someone you love or like. You may like to see ten years into your own future to see what to do or not to do . But in my opinion I would chose to see 1 year into the future for the world so you can help make the world a better place.
ReplyDeleteI think that I would see ten years into my future. I would love to figure out if I will die, so I will be able to not do whatever caused my death. Also, I could make a major bet for millions of dollars about a world event and win every last dollar. Some may argue that seeing one year into the world’s future would be cool. You could see the events of the world and so much more, but if you go ten years into the future you could see what we know today as the future. Flying cars, hoverboards, better planes, environmental friendly cars, planes, motorcycles, and even an even a more environmental friendly recycling system. That is why I would pick ten years into my future.

You could see what is going to happen and bet on something crazy. If I do that I could be on the billionaire list!!!! And if I do not want something to happen, I could change it because I knew what was going to happen. I could change it the way I want it!
ReplyDeleteSome people might say that getting to see ten years of your future because you could see how your future would go, but if you see a year into the future you could see everyone’s future for a year. For example, I could predict the first ever March Madness bracket and get $1,000,000,000! It would be great to be on the billionaire list!
I would rather see one year in everyone's future. But if I saw ten years in the future I would see if I would get hurt, what vacations I would go on, And see where
ReplyDeleteI would go to college. On the other hand If you saw ten years in the future you would see everybodies future. You Would also make amazing estimates! For example, when and how someone would die, how many pieces of candy are in a jar, and where you will go for vacations! That is why I would see one year in the future.
I would choose being able to see ten years into my future because the i could change what happens and I could see how I grow up because I would be 20! Some people would say that seeing 1 year into the world’s future would be better but you couldn’t really change anything. Like if u saw what president would be elected you wouldn’t be able to change that. But you could change what you do so I pick being able to see 10 years into my future

ReplyDeleteI would choose that because I would get to see where I go to college. Another reason is to see if I play any sports in highschool or college. The last reason is I would get to see what I like like when I am 20 years old. Some people would want to see one year into the world’s future so they see how the world changes in one year but I think seeing 10 years into the future for me.

ReplyDeleteI would rather see 10 years in my own future than 1 year in the world’s future. If I saw 10 years into my own future I could change things. But in 1 year nothing really would change that much and I couldn’t change things. Some people might want to see 1 year in the future because they could see what everyone else is doing, but I control myself and can change. Anyway, who said that seeing myself I won’t see other people.
I would want to see the world's future rather than ten years in my future. The reason is that i you wanted to see the world's future you could still see a little of your future to.Some may think that if you see ten years in your future your future will be good.If you looked into one year of the world's future you could see if any big problems would happen.Those are the reasons why I chose to look at the world's future.
ReplyDeleteI would look 10 years into my own future because you can look on the TV in 10 years and see what's going on. Also, I would want to see what my family and I would look like. However, some people may argue that looking into the world's future 1 year to see how humanity grows. But, if you go into your own future 10 years, you can see 10 years worth of your grades.This is why I would see 10 years into my own future.

However, others might choose to see one year into the world's future, so you could see who the president is, what new teacher you have, and what new things are popular.I would choose 10 years, because with that you could see so much more.I think looking 10 years ahead sounds pretty cool!

If you did your future you can see lots of your life and it would be spoiled,or you could do see the worlds future for a year. Then you would be aware of the wars and bad stuff that happen. Maybe even you 5th grade year. I chose the world future.
I would rather see one year into the future rather than ten into my future. This is because what if something really bad happens. Then you would know how to stop it. Not only that if you are above eighteen then you could make a bet for a winner in a sports competition and win! Now some people would like to see ten years into their own future. But what if you are just having an average time. Then it would be a total waste of time to do that. I think one year in the world is better than ten in my own.
ReplyDeleteI would rather see 1 year into the world's future instead of 10 years into my future. I would want to see 1 year into the world's because then I would know something about myself but also something about others. You could stop something bigger than if you stop yourself from eating a bad ice cream flavor. Another reason is that you could help others instead of just yourself. Some might say that you would be able to save yourself from making some bad decisions, but you could be saving the world. These reasons are why I think see 1 year into the world's future instead of seeing 10 years into my own.

The second reason is so I can see what happens in my future. The third reason is so I can see what friends I have. However, some may argue that it is better to see one year into the future to see what is happening, I would prefer to see ten years into my future to see what is going on with me. that is why is why I would like to see ten years into my future.

I also don't want to know the future of just my life for ten years and knowing nothing else about the world.Also I could alert someone about something bad that will happen in the next year. Those are my reasons why I would rather be able to see one year into the future of the world than ten years in my future.
