Dear Readers,
As an avid reader, I often find myself finishing a great book or an interesting article, and desperately wanting to share my thoughts with someone. When I lived in Indiana, I was lucky enough to have a group of friends who shared a passion for reading, so we formed a book club. While I am not in the same city as my book club anymore, I still reach out to my friends and family in Nashville, to discuss my wonderings and opinions about literature.
As a classroom of learners, we have created a community geared toward having a teachable spirit, so we may grow to become people of knowledge, wisdom, and ultimately character. One way we do this is by reading and forming ideas and connections that begin to shape us. In order to support this work, this blog will serve as a way to discuss various things when we are not in the class. Essentially, the blog will become a virtual classroom.
For example, I might post about a response about Thank You, Mr. Falker by explaining my connection to the character, Trish. I might say how much I relate to her overcoming an obstacle with the help of a teacher and how motivated I was to find out the author was the one who overcame her learning hurdle and became a published author. You will have the same chance to post your reactions, but also, to respond to what someone else might say. In this way, our posts become a conversation when we are away from the classroom.
As we begin this online blogging adventure, I challenge you to bring your working minds to the keyboard and let me know your thoughts and feelings about literature. We have so much to discover ...
So, join the community! Come on in, pull up to a computer, let me know your thoughts about literature and our blogging opportunity. I believe the blog will be a wonderful opportunity for our class to communicate in a unique way.
Write about the following in your comment below:
Literature is an important part of my life because I enjoy getting lost in a story and having friends recommend books to me. Also, I love talking about the books I have read. I am interested in learning more about the blog and how we will use it in class. How is literature a part of your life?
As I mentioned, I made a connection with Trish from Thank You, Mr. Falker. Who is a character that you have made a strong connection with and why?
A story I made connections with would be Hatchet. Brian had a lot of grit. He never gave up. He never stopped trying. And that is why he got rescued. That is the kind of person I want to be.
ReplyDeleteBooks are a part of my life because they give me a passion. For instance I love books that are related to non fiction but it's fiction. I like Hero's of Olympus. It uses non fiction, Greek Mythology but the author Rick Riordan made a Greek mythology fiction.

DeleteBrian, in the book HATCHET really stood out to me because he was brave. Brian is brave because he got in a plane crash and was alone. He is also brave because he survived a tornado and ran from a bear. Brian has inspired me because I want to be brave like that and have his determination.
ReplyDeleteThere is a character named Bilbo Baggins in the book The Hobbit. He has inspired me to do amazing things. He had to to go on a journey and he didn't want to. but he new it was the right thing so he did it.

DeleteI've loved reading the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. I've loved J.R.R Tolkien's description and characters. I've liked Bilbo Baggins (from the Hobbit) and Aragorn (from Lord of the Rings) because they both showed a remarkable display of courage, loyalty and determination. Bilbo Baggins got dragged into an adventure to reclaim a lost homeland and slay a dragon. He showed lots of courage when he faced the dragon Smaug when the dwarves were afraid too. Aragorn was part of a company of 9 that set out to destroy the one ring of Sauron. He showed great courage when he took the paths of the dead. He finally became king of Gondor at the end. Both inspired me to help others and have courage.

ReplyDeleteMy character that inspired me is a china doll named Annabelle from the book called "The Doll People." Annabelle is my inspirational character because in the book "The Doll People" Annabelle is searching for her aunt who has been gone for 45 years. It takes Annabelle about a month to find her. Annabelle inspires me because it takes a lot confidence to go out of the doll house and out into the huge human world. It also takes a lot of patients to look for somebody for a month who has been gone for 45 years already. Annabelle inspired me to keep going and never give up, and to always have faith.
ReplyDeleteBooks are the ''thing'' that I go to when I am bored or just looking for a good story to read. I love all of the books by Andrew Clements! I like them because they are not to long and not to short they are just the right length! Some of my favorite books by Andrew Clements are The Last Holiday Concert and The Janitor's Boy there are a lot more books than that but those are my 2 favorites. I like those book because the characters are always doing something adventurous or something that could get them into trouble. That inspires me to be like the characters in my book!

One day, Sadie was playing outside with Maria. Sadie's parents, Willie and Korie, went to get her a bed. When Maria saw the bed she fell to floor in tears.Sadie has made a big impact in my life because she helps people even though she is famous.
ReplyDeleteso touching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteHarry Potter has really stayed with me because Harry is brave even when things are tough. I can take away from this series that even when (perhaps when Harry found out that his parents were killed by the darkest wizard ever) you face big challenges you have to move on. I hope that I can live up to what a great character like Harry Potter does even though he is just a made-up person in a fantasy story.
ReplyDeletecool and funny
DeleteTim Tebow: Tim Tebow plays football like I do. Many of my friends play football too. I have stayed with him the whole book. I also am afraid of heights like him. I don't like long roller coasters or Ferris wheels.

DeleteWonder really inspired me because even though August was teased by the looks on his face, he persevered and ended up making friends even though times were hard along the way. I was blown away about how good this book was. It shows you that you need to charge your way into life, confident and sure of yourself even though people may judge you or bully you. Times may have been tough for August, but he kept trying and he got what he always wanted.........friends. I hope I can live up to have the goals in life like August did, even if he is just a character in a great book.
ReplyDeleteMy connection is with Thomas from the maze runner. He showed me to stand up for my friends no matter what. Also he is very brave and persevere in hard times. I also can connect to Will Cushing. I learned from him never to give up in what you believe in even if it means running through gunfire.
ReplyDeleteLiterature is a part of my life because 007 James bond has always inspired me. In the way he is classy but a the killer on the trigger. He always beats the bad and the thing that inspires me most is that he never gives up. That's the way I want to be in life. He has taught me when driving an Aston Martin or fighting oddjob. You have to have confidence in everything you do.

Even though she was being bulled and her boyfriend did not come back for a while and she kept on going and never gave up she had faith in her self and since kindergarten all the way to high school she never won gold but SHE KEPT TRYING. From the book gold metal summer it taught me to never gave up because when she never got a gold medal she still got a gold medal. It made me have faith in myself and trust in God that he has a plan for me and I will keep on going even if it 1 Day before I die I will pull though and it will all work out.
ReplyDeleteRaina Telgemeier has really changed me through her books. Even when things are not as she expected, she always has something great planned out of it. Raina has a little brother and a little sister, just like me, and has taught me many things through sibling hood. Raina gets pushed down a lot by her friends. I can relate to that because I get teased a bunch too. Raina persevered through those tough times, and that has changed me to stand up for myself and not let others push me down. I will always live up to what Raina does.
ReplyDeleteGreg Heffley has a very similar life as me. He has a very annoying brother I have a sister. He goes to school. I go to school. You get the point. He is a very funny character and you should read the books
ReplyDeleteA character that I have connected with is Alex from The Land Of Stories. Alex inspired me to do my own thing and not follow the crowed, because in the first book she was the different girl in school and that taught me that it is O.K. to be different. In the second book, Alex wants to stay and live with grandmother even if it means leaving her mom and brother that taught me to follow my dreams even if it means giving up something I love. In the third book, Alex has to defend her country when people want to take it over that taught me to always believe that you can overcome all your fears,
